GLENDALE ? A 24-year-old Atwater Village man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to stabbing another man several times during a dispute last week in an apartment building, court officials said. Jerry Romansky pleaded not guilty in a Glendale Superior Court room to assault with a deadly weapon charge and possession of a controlled substance charge, court officials said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16 in the Burbank courthouse. Romansky is being held on $40,000 bail in a Los Angeles County jail.

NORTHWEST GLENDALE — An 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in the torso Wednesday morning in what police believe was a gang-related drive-by shooting, which took place less than a block from Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was still conscious when police arrived on scene and was transported to Los Angeles County Medical Center where he was believed to be in stable condition at the hospital, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

David Honda may want to develop a 300-unit apartment complex on Grandview Avenue, but a Monday night meeting clearly showed that Pelanconi residents are already building something of their own ? organized opposition. More than 50 potential neighbors of the proposed project on 1011 and 1015 Grandview Ave. packed a conference room at the Glendale Water Treatment Plant Monday night to provide environmental consultants with suggestions on what to include in an upcoming draft Environmental Impact Report to the city.

Cigarettes, smokers are major liability Here we are again: More destruction caused by a smoker (?Cigarette starts apartment fire,? Oct. 30). On Oct. 27, a first-floor unit in a Glendale apartment building, one of 34 apartments in the building, was ?gutted? by a fire caused by a smoker leaving his or her lit cigarette unattended. The fire happened at about 7:30 in the morning, and some 60 people had to be evacuated from the building. The fire caused about $200,000 in damage to the premises and contents.

Everyone thought that Mr. Mealey was eccentric. He was a pack rat and a recluse; he saved everything. He had accumulated a kaleidoscope of treasures: bottle caps, old books, tin cans, comics, old tools and toys, stamps, postcards ? practically anything that people no longer wanted. I was his only friend. He was the victim of mass psychology and because of mass propaganda he suffered the fate of isolation. SOUTH GLENDALE — A Glendale man was found dead Monday morning, under a woman's car as she backed out of her carport, police said. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was a tenant in the apartment building at 118 E. Lomita Ave., said apartment manager Laura Rovira, who was driving the car. West Colorado Street at South Orange Street: A 27-year-old Glendale man was arrested Monday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. 800 block of South Adams Street: Graffiti was reportedly found spray-painted onto a sidewalk, tree and the side wall of an apartment building, causing an estimated $400 in damage.
