SCOUTS GIVEN BADGE AFTER GETTING TIPS FROM PRO Boy Scout Troop 501 from La Cañada Flintridge met with professional Chan Bush at Verdugo Oaks Par 3 in La Crescenta to earn the golf merit badge. The first thing they learned to yell was "Fore!" in the unlikely event they hit a ball astray. The requirements include playing a full round of golf. Students earning the badge were Wills Van Sickle, Matthew Van Wyck, Jeff and Mike Defond, Bennett Sorensen and Ryan Karamura . SCHOOLS RECEIVE CASH IN A CAPPELLA COMPETITION Verdugo Hills Showtime Chorus of Sweet Adelines International sponsored the third annual A Cappella Scholarship Festival through a grant from the John C. Hench Foundation.

Nicholas R. Roybal of Tujunga has been named to the dean's list for the 2007 spring semester at Connecticut College. He achieved Dean's High Honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of 3.7 to 4.0. Connecticut College is ranked among the most selective private liberal arts colleges in the nation. Victoria Jean Winter of Tujunga is expected to graduate from Azusa Pacific University this Friday, July 27 with a Master of Science in nursing.

MCDONALD — STEWART Wendy McDonald and Ian Stewart, both of Diamond Bar, were married in Upland. The Rev. Carl Witt officiated. A reception followed at the Glendora Women's Club, where bagpipes were played in recognition of the couple's Scottish heritage. The matron of honor was Darcy Ross. The bridesmaids were Laura Boschen, Chrissy Whitman and the bride's sister Kimberley Panarelli. The best man was David Ross and the groomsmen were Brad Aubuchon, Norm Bogenschild and Greg McDonald.

SOFTBALL Crescenta Valley 13, Marshall Fundamental 4: Junior Elizabeth Jacoby struck out nine and allowed five hits Monday for the Falcons (8-3) in a first-round game of the Grace Brethren Tournament. Ashleigh Viers-Gordillo had three hits and scored three runs for the Falcons, who got two hits each from Sissy Sovereign and Emily Heinemann. Sovereign drove in three runs and Heinemann drove in two. Glendale 12, Pasadena 2: Melissa Legaspi and Tatiana Mejia each had two hits and scored two runs to carry the Nitros to a Pacific League win on Monday.

A June 2008 wedding is planned by Meghan Breeden and Eric Ulfeldt, it was announced this week. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Fergus and Ellen Foley, and Bruce and Phyllis Breeden, all of Glendale. She is the granddaughter of Dolores and Harvey Marsh of La Cañada Flintridge. Her fiancé is the son of John and Marianne Ulfeldt of La Crescenta and the grandson of the late George D. and Lisbeth C. Morris of La Cañada Flintridge. Eric proposed to Meghan in the same Italian restaurant where her mother and step-dad ?

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level. Jeanine Deno (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) sophomore guard, Pasadena City College women's basketball: Deno, a former All-Area Player of the Year selection, and the Lancers continue to remain perfect. Pasadena City College improved to 22-0 with an 83-62 nonconference home victory against El Camino Community College on Wednesday. Deno, who is averaging a team-high 17.5 points per game, finished with eight points, six assists and three steals.

GLENDALE ? The following is an update on locals playing at the collegiate level. Aaron McGuinness (Crescenta Valley, 2003), junior shortstop, Gonzaga University baseball ? McGuinness and his teammates landed on highlight reels across the country, as they turned triple plays in the second and third innings in a 6-2 win April 4 against Washington State University. The Bulldogs trailed, 2-0, in the second inning when Cougar Zach Franklin stepped to the plate. With runners on first and second, Franklin lined to first baseman Bobby Carlson, who stepped on the bag for the second out and threw to McGuinness, who was covering second, to complete the triple play.

GLENDALE ? Sarah Sherman (Crescenta Valley, 2003), junior pitcher, Cal Baptist University softball ? In the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Azusa Pacific University, Sherman watched former Falcon Kris Franks of the Cougars lose an 8-2 contest. Franks allowed nine hits and five earned runs in six innings against the top-ranked team in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics. In the nightcap, Sherman kept the Lancers undefeated on the year. She pitched five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out four in an 8-0 triumph that improved Sherman's record to 10-0.

Teams like Azusa Pacific University are ranked No. 1 for a reason. The Vanguard women's soccer team lost at home to Azusa Pacific on Saturday, 2-0, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match. APU controlled the pace of the match, outshooting Vanguard, 13-7. The Lions kept the Cougars scoreless in the first half. In the second half, APU finally made its shots. In the 57th minute, the Cougars' Shannon Coe made a cross from the right end line. Randie Massro, standing in front of the net, flicked the ball to her left to an open Brooke Williams, who scored.

Scott Nicholas Vossmeyer received his bachelor's degree in public relations from the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. Vossmeyer, a 2000 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, is the son of Richard and Deborah Vossmeyer and brother of Steven Vossmeyer of Glendale. He was All Pacific League and Most Valuable Player as a quarterback at CV, which earned him a full athletic scholarship to the University of Oregon.
