Area students have received degrees from the University of Oregon. Laura Galloway of La Canada Flintridge received her bachelor of arts degree in history and political science. Steven R. Paul received his bachelor of science in political science. Area students were candidates to receive degrees or certificates from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They are, from La Canada Flintridge: Kevin Foley, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and John Williams, bachelor of science in agricultural business; from Tujunga: Arek Karrian, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering; from Glendale: Ryan McCormick, bachelor of science in construction management; Matthew Aldrich, bachelor of arts in music; Christopher Makoto, bachelor of science in construction management; and Eugene L. Ong, bachelor of arts, architecture; and from La Crescenta, Heather Rodgers, bachelor of science in graphic communication.

Michelle Ferrara , of La Crescenta, granddaughter of the late Ernest and Gloria Pistacchio, graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge on May 31. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. She will spend the summer applying to medical schools. She was a 2001 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, where she was a member of the Science and Medicine Academy. Several Glendale residents received degrees from Boston University in May. Stephanie S. Bang received her juris doctorate degree in law. Jonathon Cooke received his medical doctorate degree in medicine.

Scott Keen, the son of Robert and Cathy Keen of Glendale, has been awarded the Chevron Scholarship for engineering at USC. He is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. He is a 2001 graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School. Liliana Antelo, daughter of Marciano and Gladys Antelo of Glendale, has graduated with a bachelor's degree, cum laude from Harvard College. Shane Miller of Montrose has graduated with a bachelor's degree cum laude from California Lutheran University.

Brianna Lohr of La Canada Flintridge, who is enrolled in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, was named to the dean's list. The senior is majoring in communications design. Kelly A. Thomas, the daughter of George and Bonnie Thomas of Glendale, received a bachelor's degree from Colby College. The English major graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School. Chandra Chantim, the daughter of Chawabhan and Umaporn Chantim of La Canada Flintridge, has made the dean's list at Bucknell University.

OZAWA - SANDERS Alison J. Ozawa and John B. Sanders were married at the Rideau Vineyard in Solvang. The maid of honor was Susan Ozawa, sister of the bride. The best man was Brant Shelor. The bride is the daughter of Elisabeth Handler of Burbank and Joe Ozawa of Singapore. She graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor of arts degree and is a law student at Loyola Law School in Chicago. The groom is the son of Deana Golden of Sun Valley, Idaho, and R. Carter Sanders of Alexandria, Va. He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor of arts degree.

SNYDER Rosana Z. Ruiz, the daughter of Marco M. and Rosa E. Ruiz of Burbank, and James E. Snyder, the son of the late Edward Snyder and Louise Ratcliff of Willington, Conn., have announced their engagement. Rosana attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and Bellarmine-Jefferson High School. She graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor's degree and is working as a television account executive manager in Denver. James graduated from Bolton High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and his masters in business administration from the University of Colorado.

CHEN -- CARTER Claire F. Chen and Barton A. Carter II have announced their plans to marry in the fall. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dr. James and Fay Chen of Cerritos. She received her bachelor's degree in economics at UC Berkeley and her master's at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Mass Communications. She is an art director at Lowe Lintas in Singapore. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Juanita and Bart Carter II of Glendale.

She is working toward a master's degree in education from Pepperdine University. The groom-elect is the son of Dr. Galen W. Stahle and Rebecca Stahle.

Arne Wickstrom considers himself the luckiest man in the world. That's because Wickstrom, 81, is happily married, he said. He tied the knot four years ago for the first time. Now he says he wishes he had done it a long time ago. Wickstrom, a retired mechanic, had plans of returning to his native Sweden before he met his wife Doris, 76. After a year of courtship, Wickstrom popped the question and he and Doris returned to Sweden to get married in his hometown. The Wickstroms have made their home in La Crescenta.

GLENDALE - For the first time, students can earn a bachelor's degree without ever leaving Glendale. Stacy Goto of Glendale attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. She was among 400 high school students from around the country who met with elected officials and participated in leadership exercises. Five residents recently graduated from Azusa Pacific University: Jennifer A. Hohenstein of Glendale graduated with a bachelor's degree in cinema broadcast arts. Alexandra N. Krolikowska of Glendale graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Joyce Rudolph At 76, Arne K. Wickstrom will be changing a few lifestyle habits, now that he's engaged to Doris J. Frost, 71. The lifetime bachelor said he has to stop looking at other women and learn to pick up his clothes. "Doris said, 'You can look, but don't touch other girls, or you're out,' " said the retired Volvo mechanic, who lives in La Crescenta. His fiancee also keeps an immaculate house. "So I'll have to pick up my clothes and fold them.
