Julio Cortez Host St. Francis scored six runs in the first inning and it was all sophomore Luke Collis would need as he allowed one run in five innings in the Golden Knights' 6-1 Mission League victory against visiting Alemany on Thursday at Jackie Robinson Field. "It felt really good to get some runs behind me," said Collis, who watched from the dugout on Tuesday when the two teams met for the first time this season, with St. Francis notching a 1-0 victory at Alemany's home field in Mission Hills.

Edgar Melik-Stepanyan Wait a minute. Was that supposed to happen? Weren't the Glendale and Crescenta Valley softball teams supposed to be the top programs in the Pacific League? Some thought the Nitros and Falcons would be the teams to beat in league. -- BOX SCORE -- -- Arcadia 0 0 0 0 2 0 4 -- 6 11 1 Glendale 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 0 2 4 -- -- Arcadia IP R ER H BB K Rodriguez 7 0 0 2 0 5 -- -- Glendale IP R ER H BB K Nazarian 7 6 5 11 1 1 -- -- WP - Rodriguez (8-5)

Charles Rich The right to consider qualifying for the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs next month should be on the backburner. Until then, there'll be plenty of work ahead for the Hoover High baseball squad. Edgar Melik-Stepanyan Forget about the standings. Don't mind the win-loss record in league. Just go out and play. Those were the simple instructions Crescenta Valley High softball Coach Dan Berry had for his team entering Tuesday's Pacific League game against Hoover. In their first league game since a setback to Glendale, the Falcons looked relaxed and glad to be back home after nearly a month on the road. -- BOX SCORE -- -- Hoover 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 -- 2 4 4 Crescenta Valley 3 0 0 0 1 3 x -- 7 10 0 -- -- Hoover IP R ER H BB K Wingett 6 7 3 10 2 2 -- -- Crescenta Valley IP R ER H BB K Strangis 7 2 2 4 1 9 -- -- WP - Strangis (9-5)

Julio Cortez In desperate need of a spark on Friday, the Glendale High softball team got a charge from its battery. Pitcher Jennifer Nazarian reached base on an error before catcher Dominique Gonzalez knocked her home with a two-out, walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning that propelled the Nitros to a 2-1 nonleague victory against visiting Monrovia. An inning earlier, Gonzalez, who went two for four, reached base as she got her first hit despite a diving stop by Monrovia shortstop Courtney Mihm with one out. Audrey Andrade followed with a double before an RBI single by Heather Brusokas tied the score, 1-1, as the Nitros (9-2)
