“Bras for a Cause Celebrate the Arts” — that was the 2011 theme for the go-to annual fundraiser of the spring. Presented by Soroptimist International of Glendale for the eighth year, artistically decorated bras spilled over every nook and cranny at the Oakmont Country Club on April 9. All were on full display on auction tables in the dining room and two extra rooms so that supporters could bid on them. The Soroptimist mandate was that bras could be decorated in any way, as long as they were innovative and imaginative.

CENTRAL GLENDALE — Danielle Lacharite Brown meticulously pulled the fragile wings off unusable collector’s butterflies with fine tweezers and glued the wings onto a bra, creating an organized color pattern and shape. Lacharite Brown, who works for the Natural History Museum, entered the bra design into this year’s Bras for a Cause, an annual event where local organizations submit decorative bras, which are auctioned off to the highest bidder. Lacharite Brown’s bra paid tribute to the Natural History Museum’s Pavilion of Wings exhibit, which allows visitors to walk through rooms full of butterflies.

If you find popcorn and movie tickets stuffed in a bra, you must be at Soroptimist International of Glendale's fourth annual Bras for a Cause fundraiser. The event has contestants decorate bras, which they pay $100 to enter in the competition. The bras are then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Funds raised go to breast cancer services at Glendale hospitals and other local charities that help women and children, event founder Kathy Lefkovits said. This year's competition has some innovative ideas depicting the theme Bras for a Cause Goes to the Movies, she said.

Thanking Cavalia for its spectacular mane event What a magical experience, this beautifully, breathtaking performance between humans and horses. I have attended Cavalia three times, each performance more [exceptional] than the last. Magali Delgado and her husband, Frederic Pignon, are absolutely fantastic, as are the others who ride the beautiful horses. The men and women acrobats are amazing in their acts. I am so thankful that Cavalia came to Glendale.
