What do we do when faith is in opposition with psychology? Perhaps these two disciplines do not have to be completely in disagreement. Often, if we are people of faith, it is the full truth that sets us free. An integration of theology and psychology can be very healing. That is what the evolving of Family Faith into Faith and Life is all about ? integration of faith and science, because they do not have to be polar opposites. I enjoy a practice as a therapist where I treat those who are professing Christians as well as those who do not practice a certain religion.

GLENDALE ? Parents with autistic children can enjoy an opportunity to spend quality time with them in a safe and sympathetic environment at the Foothill Autism Alliance's annual Spring Picnic and Fun Festival on Saturday. More than 150 people, including siblings and family friends, are expected to attend the afternoon event at Lower Scholl Canyon Park, which organizers chose because of its small size and seclusion, said alliance president Yudi Bennett. The spring picnic, now in its eighth year, offers families in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge some welcome respite from the difficulties of caring for their autistic children, who often find it difficult to socialize in schools and the wider community, Bennett said.

DAN KIMBER There is not a year that goes by that the following question is not asked of me: "Mr. Kimber, did you smoke pot when you were younger?" Many years ago my answer was, "That's none of your business." More recently it was. "I was a child of the '60s -- you figure it out." Lately, I've decided to be a little more direct and a little more truthful at the same time. I'll ask the inquisitive teenager to refine the question. "Ask me if I experimented, ask me if I did it occasionally, or ask me if I did it daily."

Megachurches are loved by some and derided by others, but a new study from the University of Washington claims that people who attend services at these huge churches can experience a change in brain chemistry that researchers are calling a spiritual “high.” “We see this experience of unalloyed joy over and over again in megachurches. That's why we say it's like a drug,” said James Wellman, an associate professor of American religion who co-authored the study. Large gatherings of people at shared events such as sports events and rock concerts can engender similar feelings, but megachurches “seem to be unique in that these feelings are not just experienced as euphoria but as something transcendent or divine.” The researches think the spiritual “high” is caused by oxytocin, a chemical that's thought to be involved in social interaction.

Do you agree with last week's Supreme Court decision declaring that it was unconstitutional to execute a person younger than 18 when the crime was committed? How does this jibe, or not, with the biblical reference in Exodus, an " ... eye for an eye, tooth for tooth ... "? In my opinion, violence is evil, and in this circumstance we must view all of the very complicated sides of this issue. Violence isn't new. The Bible records violence in Genesis 6:11.
