The "No Parking" sign may be down at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station by summer, the lieutenant in charge of operations said this week. Lt. Joe Efflandt said the year-long project to repair the station's parking lot may be over in another 90 days, much to the relief of station personnel and neighbors. A hillside collapsed onto the lot during the January 2005 rains and it has been pretty much out of service since. The lot is completely closed now, with dirt piled up high.

I was very unpleasantly surprised on Saturday morning when I drove down Briggs to see the Crafts and Collectibles Market setting up. It looked like someone's poorly organized flea market - quite an eyesore in an area that has been polishing its image of late. My teenage son's comment was, “Is this a garage sale?” Definitely not the kind of image that I think La Crescenta has been trying to project. Either this needs to be drastically improved or discontinued permanently.

Residents near Briggs and Mountain avenues and the Crescenta Valley Town Council got their wish this week as the Board of Supervisors voted to install a four-way stop at the intersection. The action came from a motion by Supervisor Mike Antonovich, after a traffic study found that the stop signs would not help with the problem of speeding on Briggs. "The complaints by residents and school officials, as well as the reports of speeding and near misses, suggest that installing (the signs)

As I started out my front door a little before 7 a.m. the other day, the quiet was shattered by the ringing of a telephone -- my telephone. My wife had been on her morning walk along Foothill Boulevard for almost two hours, so I suspected it might be her, asking for a lift home. Some mornings, that two-mile hike up Briggs to our house is more than she wants to tackle. I picked up the phone, giving my hello the warmth that a damsel in distress might welcome, to be taken up short by an angry neighbor's voice hurling invective and frustration with his greeting: "Jerry, why didn't you tell me the CHP would be patrolling Briggs today?

I have been sitting here reading the papers for days, weeks, years. I really hate to say this, but there are a lot of people here in Glendale that disgust the hell out of me. First of all, who are you people who just go around putting people down, acting like you are better than your neighbor, relative or some homeless person on the streets? I can't believe the gall of some of you that think for one minute that you or your child are perfect, that your child would never lie to you. Yes, part of this letter is in regards to the two children whose lives were taken.
