An avalanche is building in La CaƱada and it's headed for local Calvary Chapel of the Foothills. "This year our church is a stampede of excitement as we visit Avalanche Ranch," said Pastor Gary Ruff. "Our Avalanche Ranch program will provide fun, memorable Bible-learning activities for kids 4 years of age to 12 years old. Each day kids will sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, take on a daily challenge to let God's love grow into their homes, experience electrifying Bible adventures, collect Bible memory buddies to remind them of God's word, and create Bible point."

GLENDALE — The breakout 2006 season enjoyed by the Holy Family volleyball team came to an end Thursday night when the Gaels were eliminated by host Calvary Chapel of Murietta in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV-A playoffs, by the score of 25-11, 25-17, 25-19. "I like the fact that we came out strong at the beginning, but critical errors and miscues by players cost us at the end of the match," Gaels Coach Robert Bringas said. "Some of my key players didn't step up, but that has a lot to do with youth."

GLENDALE ? Saturday's first-round home game against wild-card Sunny Hills was no walk in the park for the Pacific League-champion Hoover High boys' soccer team, which survived with a narrow 1-0 victory on a second-half goal by Vatche Ailian. Today in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, the Tornadoes will have to equal that feat under a more daunting set of circumstances. The Los Padres League-champion Saints (21-4) were ranked sixth in the division this season, and await the Tornadoes at the end of a 165-mile bus ride north.
