City should work with Caruso, not against It is unfortunate that Mr .Caruso has been dissuaded in his attempt to bring a highly beneficial project to Glendale. The Town Center would make the city a real shopping destination in Los Angeles County, and would attract further mixed-use development that would be crucial to the redevelopment of downtown Glendale. Caruso is the developer that can make this happen. He has a track record for making successful projects such as the Grove at Farmers Market, which attracted 25 million visitors in its first year.

Steven A. Wells professes confusion (Community Commentary, "Bewildered by blind faith of Americana supporters," June 4) over the position of the many thousands of Glendale residents who support the Americana at Brand. Mr. Wells' stance is disingenuous, and the content of his commentary shows a fundamental lack of understanding, or blatant disregard of facts, about the Americana and its supporters. Resentment toward General Growth and fervent support for Caruso Affiliated grew simply enough from an organic source.

On Wednesday, a 7-pound rodent climbed out of a hollowed tree stump, coerced and cajoled by men in top hats, while the masses looked on expectantly. Some call him Marmota monax, others a woodchuck, others a land-beaver. Still others a groundhog. Most call him Phil, and Phil failed to see his shadow. So they say. And it was proclaimed, spring shall come early. Then the hearty men and women of Punxsutawney, Pa., swiftly ran back indoors to bear down for the goliath snowstorm sweeping every part of the nation but ours, and to begin making brisket and buffalo wings for Sunday's big game.

Grieving her beloved pet, the victim of a coyote attack I just lost my most precious Yorkshire dog to another one of those coyote attacks. It happened the day before yesterday (May 3) and I am just too grieved to tell you. I have always watched my dog when in the backyard, for years aware of these coyotes around our hill here in College Hills. It happened so fast. Please do something about this epidemic. They have killed babies, toddlers, and pretty soon will kill even strong humans.

JOYCE RUDOLPH The mastery of producer David O. Selznick and the events leading up to filming "Gone With the Wind" are reasons the film has endured the test of time, one of the film's actresses believes. Ann Rutherford, who portrayed Scarlett O'Hara's sister, Careen, in the movie, said no other book or film stirred up as much interest as MGM's 1939 epic. "You couldn't go into the corner drug store without seeing everyone at the counter reading the book," she said.

Why would the city give away prime real estate? So, Mr. Caruso has once again had a temper tantrum. Only this time he did it in an open forum rather than behind closed doors in one of those famous "closed sessions" the city is noted for to keep the prying eye of the public uninformed. As they say, don't let the door hit your backside as you leave, Mr. Caruso. Let many of us in Glendale say it again. No to closed streets; no to unchecked congestion; no to a postage stamp park; no to our "Jewel City" having as its anchor store a Target.
