I want to update you that Lucky, the hen we rescued from a street corner near Glendale Community College in February 2010, quietly passed away on Nov. 13. Lucky had a great life with us and was much loved, and will be missed. We do not know how old she was, but we guess around 7 or 8 years old. Nathan Arnold Simi Valley

Tucked behind the Glendale Community College’s electronic billboard, an unlikely tenant has managed to roost and elude animal control officers for a week now. The fast-moving black chicken has dodged animal control officers by attempting risky flight maneuvers into traffic at Verdugo Road and Mountain Street, officials said. All the while, it’s set up shop on the corner, feeding off insects in the nearby bushes, or scraps from passersby. “We simply cannot catch the chicken,” said Ricky Whitman, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Humane Society, which provides animal control services in Glendale.

A black hen named Lucky that ruffled some feathers in Glendale has passed away. Lucky pecked its way to stardom in 2010, after taking up residence behind the electronic billboard at Glendale Community College for two months. The well-fed bird had dodged animal control officers several times by attempting risky flight maneuvers into traffic at Verdugo Road and Mountain Street. Authorities from the Pasadena Humane Society said the chicken was creating dangerous traffic conditions for drivers.

Claudia Peschiutta DOWNTOWN -- In a restaurant where the Southwest chicken sandwich, grilled chicken quesadilla and grilled chicken Caesar salad are among the most popular items, there is one thing the chef always needs: chicken. Kevin MacLaren, executive chef at Canyon Cafe, was forced to face the nightmarish possibility of a lunch-hour rush without chicken Thursday when a delivery truck fell more than two hours behind schedule. "Chicken is on about 80% of my menu and not having chicken, it's almost useless to open the doors," he said.
