The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) starting pitcher, Tulsa Drillers: Last year's California League Pitcher of the Year, Bergman has made a fairly smooth transition to the double-A stage with Tulsa of the Texas League. Bergman, a former All-Area Baseball Player of the Year, has put up respectable numbers with the Colorado Rockies' affiliate after starring in class-A last season with the Modesto Nuts.

The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) starting pitcher, Tulsa Drillers: After being named the California League Pitcher of the Year, Bergman has shown he's eyeing more awards with the Tulsa Drillers, the Colorado Rockies double-A affiliate. Bergman threw six shutout innings Friday in his debut with the Drillers, allowing just one hit, after being promoted from the class-A advanced Modesto Nuts, where he was spent last season and was given the aforementioned accolade.

The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) starting pitcher, Modesto Nuts: For the first time since 2004, the Nuts earned a trip to the California League Championship Series after they captured the league's North Division title by defeating San Jose in a best two-out-of-three series and taking down the Bakersfield Blaze in a three-out-of-five affair. Bergman, of course, had a big part to play in getting Modesto there.

Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) starting pitcher, Modesto Nuts: Bergman, a former All-Area Player of the Year, likely won't forget what he's accomplished this season with the Nuts, the class-A advanced affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Simply put, he's garnered impressive accolades. Bergman, who was selected as the California League Pitcher of the Year, was slated to start Wednesday's playoff game against the host San Jose Giants.

The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) starting pitcher, Modesto Nuts: Bergman's consecutive win streak came to an end at four starts Monday, but Bergman was still dominant in the six-inning performance. The former All-Area Baseball Player of the Year gave up just four hits, two walks, an earned run and struck out seven in a 2-1 loss to the Lancaster Jethawks. The Jethawks also snapped Bergman's scoreless innings streak without giving up an earned run at 19 1/3 when Grant Hogue singled in Ben Heath in the bottom of the fifth for a 1-0 Lancaster lead.

The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Jason Botts (Glendale Community College, 2000) outfielder, Piratas de Campeche: After a brief stint competing in the Major Leagues with the Texas Rangers, Botts is looking to resuscitate his professional career in the triple-A Mexican League. Botts, 31, last played in the majors in 2008 with the Rangers, hitting two home runs in 15 games. According to Baseballreference.com, Botts signed free-agent contracts with the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals in 2010 and the New York Mets in 2011, but none of those opportunities worked in Botts' favor as he was released by Chicago and granted free agency by Washington and New York.

David Olmedo-Barrera was asked to do a number of different things in his career on the St. Francis High baseball team. Olmedo-Barrera played second and third base before sliding over to shortstop his senior year, while also playing in the outfield at times. He also bounced from the No. 2 and 3 spots in the order before leading off for the Golden Knights this past season. "The best thing about David is his versatility," St. Francis interim Coach Aaron Milam said. "Put him anymore and you'll get a decent performance out of him, and on top of that you can count on him to hit at any spot in the lineup.
