The Rev. Beverly Craig has selected "Bless What we Have" as the topic of the 10 a.m. service this Sunday, Nov. 19, at the La Crescenta Church of Religious Science. Church school, which is held simultaneously with the church service, is offered for youths ages 4 through teens. Child care is available. Brunch will be served following the ceremony in Chaffee Hall. There are also several ongoing classes offered at the church, which is located at 4845 Dunsmore at Santa Carlotta.

'Jesus the Mystic' message for Sunday LA CRESCENTA - The Rev. Bill Schirmer has selected "Jesus the Mystic" as his message for the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at the La Crescenta Church of Religious Science, 4845 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta. Music will be provided by Susan and Chris Holder on the piano and Cecilia Celis on the organ. Brunch will be served following the service. FOREST LAWN, GLENDALE -- Catholicos Aram I, the spiritual leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, will deliver an address at 8:30 a.m. today at Forest Lawn, Glendale during a program commemorating the 1,700-year anniversary of the church. The pontiff will speak to more than 700 students of Prelay Armenian Church School. His appearance at Forest Lawn will mark the second day of a five-day tour of Southern California. On Wednesday, Aram I addressed the congregation of St. Mary's Armenian Apostolic Church in Glendale.

Buck Wargo LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- The new kid on the block starts Sunday at the Church of the Lighted Window. The Rev. Charles G. Schepel, 62, will begin his tenure as senior minister at the church. The Rev. Diana Hopkins has served as interim senior minister for more than a year. "It is very exciting," Schepel said Wednesday, his first day on the job. "I enjoy the opportunity of meeting new people." Schepel will be introduced at the 10 a.m. service at the church, 1200 Foothill Blvd.

Church of the Lighted Window has service LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Pastor Skip Lindeman, senior minister, will conduct the 10 a.m. Sunday worship hour at Church of the Lighted Window. Diane Kirk and Jane Bock will be in the narthex to greet worshippers. Music will be by Rendell Dahms, guest organist, and the choral ensemble. Church school classes are available for all ages and child care is offered for infants and toddlers. The church is at 1200 Foothill Blvd.

Mormon conference at Glendale Stake Center GLENDALE -- Neal A. Maxwell, one of the 12 apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at a regional conference at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church's Glendale Stake Center, 1101 N. Central Ave. The meeting is open to the public. Also speaking is Merrill J. Bateman, former president of Brigham Young University and a general authority of the church. Both he and Maxwell will travel from Salt Lake City to preside over the event, which will be televised from Glendale to eight other Latter-day Saints Stake Centers in Southern California.

Glendale Adventist Academy took a trip back down memory lane to celebrate its centennial on Sunday. The celebration featured the school's annual May Festival as hundreds of students, parents and alumni of years past joined in on the festivities that included game booths, a dunk tank, inflatable slides, food and entertainment. A history exhibit featuring black-and-white photographs and poster boards illustrating several decades at the school, hung near the entrance. Assemblyman Paul Krekorian stopped by to present the school with a certificate of resolution from the California State Assembly.

The church school at Church of the Lighted Window in La CaƱada Flintridge will present its annual Christmas Pageant at the 10 a.m. service this Sunday, Dec.17. Visitors are welcomed to see the pageant, titled "Letters to the Christ child," and under the direction of Theresa Servin, director of Christian education. Musical accompaniment for the pageant will be provided by church organist Joseph Klice. Coffee and tea will be offered in the Fellowship Hall following the service with members of the Fellowship Club serving.

Verdugo Valley Baptist Church Verdugo Valley Baptist Church, Glendale, will hold a Bible Study at 9:30 a.m., followed by Worship Service at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 28th, at the Lower Scholl Canyon Park, 2899 Glenoaks Canyon Dr., Glendale. Classes will be provided for children through the fifth grade during the adult Bible Study and Worship Service. Immediately afterward, there will be an old-fashioned Baptist potluck luncheon complete with barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs.

Fellowship Club offers forum on Islam GLENDALE -- Josh Winters, a doctorate candidate and fellow of Arabic at UCLA's von Grunebaum Center for Near Eastern Studies, will be the guest speaker at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Fellowship Club potluck dinner at 6 tonight. Winters' studies and interests in Islam have drawn him to some of the most controversial political situations throughout the Middle East and South Asia. He will discuss Islam, Muslims, the Taliban, terrorist-recruitment techniques and other topics.

Josh Kleinbaum In Glendale, students do not need to worry about whether their school has a bathroom with running water. Until three years ago, though, preschool students at a church in Mexicali, Mexico, did not have that luxury. Their school, run by a pastor with the United Methodist Church who personally picks up each student every morning, did not have running water. Then, as part of an annual service project, a group of kids from the First United Methodist Church of Glendale helped build a new schoolhouse.

Midge Boardman, People GLENDALE -- Do dreams come true? Ask Betty Ricksecker. As a child in Glendale, she wanted to become a missionary or teacher. Today, she believes she has accomplished both goals. For the past 30 years, she has been director of the Grandview Presbyterian Church School -- and loves it. "In my heart of hearts, it's really a mission," she said, "not just a job." Ricksecker entered the field of childhood education because of a friend's accident.
