SYLMAR - Just two days removed from a gritty win at Bakersfield, a fatigued Glendale Community College baseball squad had its six-game winning streak snapped in another Western State Conference South Division road game against LA Mission College. The Vaqueros held a three-run lead in the sixth inning before giving up seven runs in the frame and 11 unanswered to eventually lose to the Eagles, 14-6, Saturday afternoon at El Cariso Park in Sylmar. “We were a little tired,” Vaqueros Coach Chris Cicuto said.

GLENDALE - Well aware it was coming into a game with a fairly evenly-matched opponent, the Glendale Community College baseball team put an all-around game together Tuesday night. With just a handful of games left in the regular season, the Vaqueros, who are ranked third by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Assn., hosted No. 5 Bakersfield - a team they'd split a pair of games with - in a crucial Western State Conference South Division game at Stengel Field. GCC was backed by another solid outing from starting pitcher Angel Rodriguez, quality defense and enough offense for a 5-1 win. “The pitchers did their jobs, the defense did it and we did everything right,” said the Vaqueros' Justin Jones, who was three for five with two runs batted in and a stolen base.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Glendale Community College 25, West LA College 3: Chris Whitmer was the main attraction for the Vaqueros' explosive offensive Tuesday, as his grand slam highlighted his two-for-three, five-runs-batted-in game. Gary Acuna picked up the win in a lopsided victory for the Vaqueros, as he tossed six innings of one-hit, one-run, four-strikeout ball. GCC relievers Kyle Schneider and Jaime Rosales helped close the door, pitching scoreless seventh and eighth innings in the victory.

GLENDALE - Angel Rodriguez felt some extra pressure coming into the Glendale Community College baseball team's critical contest with College of the Canyons Thursday at Stengel Field. The Vaqueros starting pitcher didn't mind the extra meaning on the Western State Conference South Division game, tossing eight shutout innings to lead his team to a 6-1 win that broke a four-game losing streak and kept it in first place. COLLEGE BASEBALL Glendale Community College 6, LA Valley College 2: Keaton Leach picked up the win on for the host Vaqueros on Thursday in a Western State Conference South Division contest at Stengel Field. The freshman threw seven innings without giving up an earned run and also struck out three batters. Michael Robinson picked up the save, his first of the season. Offensively, Glendale was led by Justin Jones, who went two for four with two runs batted in. Julian Jarrard also had a two-RBI double in the game for the Vaqueros, who improved to 16-5, 11-2.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Glendale Community College 9, Citrus College 8 (16 innings): The visiting Vaqueros won their fifth straight game and their second extra-inning win in the last three games, as Julian Jarrard drove in the game-winning run on one of his four hits. . GCC is now 10-2 and remains in first place in the Western State Conference South Division and is 15-5 overall. Sergio Plascencia had three hits and three runs, including the game-winner on Jarrard's RBI. Justin Jones also had three hits.
