A group of Occidental College students and alumni -- including several who say they were raped -- filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Education on Thursday alleging that the school failed to protect women from sexual assaults. Flanked by six current and former students who say they were raped, attorney Gloria Allred said the complaint outlines violations of Title IX, which bars sex discrimination at schools. In the complaint, Allred alleges that 37 students were “raped, sexually assaulted, battered, harassed or retaliated against for speaking out against sexual violence.

GLENDALE - Well aware it was coming into a game with a fairly evenly-matched opponent, the Glendale Community College baseball team put an all-around game together Tuesday night. With just a handful of games left in the regular season, the Vaqueros, who are ranked third by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Assn., hosted No. 5 Bakersfield - a team they'd split a pair of games with - in a crucial Western State Conference South Division game at Stengel Field. GCC was backed by another solid outing from starting pitcher Angel Rodriguez, quality defense and enough offense for a 5-1 win. “The pitchers did their jobs, the defense did it and we did everything right,” said the Vaqueros' Justin Jones, who was three for five with two runs batted in and a stolen base.

GLENDALE - After recording a third-place finish Monday in a Western State Conference home match, the members of the Glendale Community College men's golf team immediately began to look ahead to the conference final. Glendale college had four players crack the 70s to finish with a 385 on Monday at fabled Oakmont Country Club. PHOTOS: Glendale Community College men's golf in Western State Conference match While Glendale Coach Greg Osbourne would have liked to have seen the Vaqueros win on their home course for the third season in a row, Monday's placement left the Vaqueros knowing what they will need to accomplish at the 36-hole conference tournament on Monday at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.

WALNUT - It was a day of exceeded expectations for the Glendale Community College track and field team at Saturday's community college edition of the 55th annual Mt. San Antonio College Relays. Maybe no one came in with more acclaim and lived up to that subsequent billing than did Glendale sophomore Grace Graham-Zamudio. The state leader in the 1,500-meter run superseded her California-best time of 4 minutes, 36 seconds by winning the event in 4:34.47, which was just off the meet record time of 4:33 set by Phoenix's Trina Leopold in 1985.

Instead of going to a NCAA Division II football program, Tyler Marona decided to start his college football career at Pasadena City College out of St. Francis High. "There were people and coaches all over the place telling me I shouldn't do that, [junior colleges] aren't an option," said Marona, a defensive lineman who hoped he'd garner some Division I interest after his freshman season. The former Golden Knight also started questioning if he made the right decision around winter break when he hadn't heard from any Division I schools, and about three weeks ago Pasadena City College Coach Fred Fimbres sat down with Marona and his parents in an attempt to reassure them.

After qualifying for the Southern California Regionals and then competing in the Western Conference Tournament last week, the members of the exhausted Glendale Community College men's tennis team made the long trek to San Diego on Tuesday. While the Vaqueros were glad to return to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons, they were not able to shake off fatigue. Fifth-seeded Glendale saw its season end with a 5-1 loss against third-seeded San Diego Mesa in a quarterfinal match.

Scott Hong (Glendale Community College, 2011) Occidental baseball senior: Once again, Hong is doing it all for the Tigers. But after leading the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last season in saves, Hong has taken on the roll as starter when he's not manning the outfield. Hong leads Oxy in both wins and saves, as he's posted a 4-0 record with four saves and has a complete game to his credit. Hong has been brilliant to the tune of a 0.64 earned-run average with 29 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings to just eight walks.

With essentially a brand new cast of players, the Glendale Community College women's tennis team did something it hadn't done since 1999 - qualify for the Southern California Regionals. While the Vaqueros would have liked to have extended their season, they made strides to improve the program's outlook. "It's a tremendous reward just to get this far," Glendale assistant Coach Deo Sy said after seventh-seeded Glendale suffered a 5-0 road loss to second-seeded Mt. San Antonio College in a first-round match Tuesday.
