Tim Willert GLENDALE -- A group of local Realtors is holding a fund-raider to help the people least able to afford its services. The Glendale Assn. of Realtors is having a yard sale on Saturday to benefit Project ACHIEVE, a multi-agency program based in Glendale that provides a variety of services for the homeless. The sale is from 8 a.m. until noon in the parking lot of the Glendale Elks Lodge, 120 E. Colorado St., and refreshments will be provided.

Amber Willard THORNYCROFT -- Two women were arrested on suspicion of prostitution at a Glendale motel. Undercover officers went to the Sakura Motel Thursday after arranging a meeting with a woman whose advertisement they found in a telephone book. While waiting for the first woman to arrive, officers observed several men coming in and out of the room of the second woman, Officer Todd Anderson said. After checking the room out, officers arrested the 23-year-old San Bernardino woman on suspicion of prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Amber Willard SOUTHEAST GLENDALE -- Glendale Police are searching for a man who robbed a woman at gunpoint in a parking lot. The woman was sitting in a car in the Ralphs parking lot at 1416 E. Colorado St. at 9 p.m. Monday when the man walked up to the car and pressed a handgun against her chest, police said. The man demanded money, and after getting it, left east through the parking lot. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Glendale Crime Stoppers, an anonymous hotline, at 507-7867.

Gretchen Hoffman The employees at Chris Schmutzer's Burger Kings responded so enthusiastically to a holiday toy drive last year that he wanted to take it a step further and give the community a chance to pitch in. The concept of the "For The Children" program is simple: Toys that are collected at a Burger King are distributed to needy children within that community. Unwrapped toys dropped off at four local Burger Kings -- 1200 E. Colorado St., 1635 W. Glenoaks Blvd.

A new hotel received final approval from the City Council on Tuesday, giving visitors to Glendale another lodging option within walking distance of the Americana at Brand, Glendale Galleria and other downtown businesses. In a 4-1 vote, the council approved a proposal from Los Angeles-based developer Vista Investments, LLC to build a five-story, 94-room Hampton Inn & Suites on an L-shaped lot on the southwest corner of Brand Boulevard and Colorado Street. Vista Investments owns eight other hotels in Southern California, including the Vagabond Inn, located next door to the new hotel on Colorado Street.
