SANTA MONICA - Facing a six-point deficit with 47 seconds to go, the Glendale Community College men's basketball team launched a valiant comeback to cut Santa Monica College's lead to two in 19 seconds. That's as close as the Vaqueros would get in their Western State Conference South Division road game and 81-75 loss to the Corsairs, who hit their free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory Saturday. “We tried to claw back into the game; we made a good effort at it,” Vaquero sophomore guard Mark Hicks said.

NORTHEAST GLENDALE - In an ending symbolic of most of the match, the Glendale Community College women's volleyball team got close, but just couldn't catch Santa Monica City College. The Vaqueros rallied from a seven-point deficit, when the Corsairs needed only six more to win, to close to within three in the third game and came all the way back from an early eight-point deficit to tie the fourth game only to be denied a shot at a fifth game when Santa Monica closed out the Western State Conference match, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19.

NORTHEAST GLENDALE - A rousing start was exactly what the Glendale Community College women's basketball team needed to get Coach Carrie Miller her first home victory since taking over the program last season. Before Miller realized it, the Vaqueros had an early sizable advantage before holding on for a 65-59 Western State Conference South Division victory against visiting Santa Monica City College on Wednesday night. "They are starting to run the things we ask of them and they came out and shot well to get us a quick lead," said Miller, whose team ended its five-game losing streak.

NORTHEAST GLENDALE - Already down six points less than three minutes into the game, Glendale Community College men's basketball Coach Brian Beauchemin called a full timeout before delivering a message. During the minute-long break, Beauchemin addressed the need of moving the ball around quicker and taking selective shots to help the Vaqueros break out of their funk. Glendale college got the pointers and then ended a season-high six-game losing skid Wednesday night with a 60-49 win against visiting Santa Monica City College in a Western State Conference South Division contest.

GLENDALE — At some point, the Glendale Community College football team figures it will eventually win a game and at least one close finish will go its way. While four consecutive close losses have tugged at Vaquero third-year Coach John Rome's heartstring, more than anything, he would just like for a victory to come sooner than later. Glendale will once again try for its first win of the season when it battles host Santa Monica City College in a Pacific Conference American Division contest at 6 p.m. today.

SANTA MONICA ? Saturday night will go down as one of those games the Glendale Community College women?s basketball team would just as soon forget. The Vaqueros struggled to find any rhythm on offense, couldn?t contain the Santa Monica College duo of Zedra Slaton and Jasmine English and, as a result, dropped an 82-56 Western State Conference South Division contest at Santa Monica. The victory for the Corsairs completes a season sweep of the Vaqueros after Santa Monica won the previous outing 71-59 on Jan. 16. Glendale college?

SANTA MONICA — For whatever the reason, the field at Santa Monica College has a bizarre effect on the Glendale Community College football team. For the second consecutive year, the Vaqueros traveled to face the Corsairs and for the second consecutive year, the Vaqueros played uncharacteristically out of sorts. The major difference, however, is that the same outcome would not follow suit. Instead, the team opened up Western State Conference South Division play in positive fashion, defeating Santa Monica, 31-12 on Saturday night.
