AUG. 12 Inventor's Forum -- the Orange County-based, all-volunteer, nonprofit inventors' support group -- will present a seminar on "Virtual Prototyping and Three-Dimensional Design by Computer." Margaret "Peg" Leczkowski A memorial service for former Costa Mesa resident Margaret Leczkowski will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Huntington Beach's Good Shepherd Cemetery. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Leczkowski lived for nearly half a century in Costa Mesa, where she was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler and square dancer, and she enjoyed riding roller coasters and taking care of her dogs. Mrs. Leczkowski died Aug. 10 of a pulmonary disease. She was 86. Mrs. Leczkowski is survived by her sister, Veronica Gabriel; her sons, Larry Leczkowski Jr., Ken Leczkowski and Michael Leczkowski; her daughter, Mary Lou Hesch; and three grandchildren.

When Daily Pilot editors suggested it might be time for my return to column writing -- specifically to keep an eye on Costa Mesa city government -- a predicament was immediately evident. How well can one be a watchdog of government while an official of that government? How to answer the pickle wasn't nearly as immediate, but a solution eventually surfaced. I'd simply steer clear of tidbits and occurrences that had to do with my gig as a parks and recreation commissioner.
