Jet Propulsion Laboratory had some Earthly excitement on Tuesday morning when a man refused to yield at the entrance of the first gate and crashed his vehicle into the barricades of the second gate. According to Veronica McGregor at JPL, information on the man who was driving the vehicle is sketchy because they have not received much information from the Altadena Sheriff?s Department, which is handling the case. What is known is that a man who was being pursued by a sheriff?

BURBANK — Students and faculty members at John Burroughs High School are mourning the loss of culinary arts teacher Tania Hurd, 46, who was one of three passengers killed Saturday on a tourist helicopter that crashed on Santa Catalina Island. The Eurocopter AS350 Island Express helicopter carrying six passengers crashed at 9:30 a.m. Saturday near Two Harbors on the northwest end of the island, said Terry Williams, spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board. Hurd and two others were killed, and three passengers, including Hurd’s stepson, C.J. Noecker, were critically injured and are being treated at local hospitals.

JOSH KLEINBAUM The first 27 miles of the 20th annual Love Ride -- my first Love Ride -- were fantastic: engines roaring, wind blowing in my face, spectators waving, car drivers staring. I was in a sidecar, so I could look around and take in the scenery. Pedestrians lined overpasses, cheering us on. Somebody even took the name of the ride literally, proposing marriage with a sign hanging from an overpass. But after 27 miles, things got a little dicey.

Paul Clinton GLENDALE -- A Glendale police officer injured in a high-speed chase was listed in serious condition Monday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Glendale Police Officer Kathryn Frieders crashed her cruiser Sunday while chasing a van reportedly driven by two teenage boys. The chase began on West Los Feliz Boulevard and ended 10 minutes and seven miles later in Los Angeles, a police spokesman said. Officers arrested two boys, 15 and 16, after they crashed the van and tried to flee on foot, police said.

GLENDALE — Local Armenian organizations are bracing themselves for the worst, following news reports that an Armenia-bound airplane crashed in Iran today.  All 168 people on-board are believed dead. Chairman Vasken Khodanian of Glendale’s Armenian Council of America said he is trying to obtain a list of passengers on Caspian Airways Flight 7908. That way, he said, he can determine whether any local residents were affected.

Three people received minor injuries when a car crashed through through the window of a local Clothestime after its driver lost consciousness, a CHP official said. Authorities do not know why the 47-year-old Sunland man lost consciousness Friday, CHP Officer Vince Bell said. The man, whose name was not released, had pulled into the parking lot at 2645 Foothill Blvd. about 7:30 p.m. His car accelerated and crashed through the store's front window after he lost consciousness.

Ryan Carter BURBANK -- A 42-year-old Glendale man was arrested in the alleged stabbing of a man outside a cafe on Glenoaks Boulevard on Sunday, officials said. Masis Grigoryan, 42, allegedly crashed his white Geo into the back of a parked Toyota Solora, got out clutching a steak knife and began to stab and chase a man who was sitting having a cup of coffee outside Caravan Restaurant on the 1100 block Glenoaks Boulevard, Glendale Police Sgt. Bruce Fox said.

Robert Chacon A Los Angeles man allegedly trying to outrun a sheriff's deputy crashed his sport utility vehicle into a tree adjacent to La Canada Flintridge City Hall early Monday, uprooting the tree. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Edmundo Perez arrested Gregory Stamps, 47, on suspicion of evading a police officer and commercial burglary. Perez spotted Stamps at 2 a.m., speeding out of the Ross store parking lot at 211 Foothill Blvd. and driving east on the wrong side of the street, according to reports.

Police arrest man in hit-and-run case Police Tuesday arrested an 18-year-old Glendale man on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run, after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash in northwest Glendale. Police said that Rafael Estarellas crashed his white Nissan Pathfinder into a parked Mercedes-Benz on the 300 block of Cumberland Road. Witnesses reported seeing three men step out of the Pathfinder, pick up its front bumper and throw it into the back seat before pulling away at a high rate of speed, according to the report.

Beneath a starry sky, Sosé Thomassian and Allen Yekikian held each other on their wedding night, arms looped around hips, eyes locked, for more than 20 minutes so the photographer could capture what would become their favorite wedding photo. Back at the wedding reception in a lakeside Armenian town, the photographer showed off the shot and the crowd cooed. The couple got their wedding, but there will be no first anniversary. About eight months after the wedding, on May 10, Thomassian and Yekikian died in a head-on car crash while on a weekend getaway in Georgia, Armenia's neighbor to the north.

Two motorists crashed into buildings in two separate collisions Monday morning, police said. The first crash occurred about 8:24 a.m. at Everett and Colorado streets, police said. An eastbound driver reportedly failed to stop for a red light before being hit by a southbound motorist, police said. The driver then crashed into the southeast corner of a building in the 800 block of East Colorado Street. The driver was cited on suspicion of driving without a valid driver's license, police said.

Surviving victims and family members of a deadly Pasadena car crash that occurred during a police pursuit on Christmas Day - a Glendale woman and a Daly City boy - have filed claims against the city that could pave the way for wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits. The five claims filed on March 11 contend police were negligent in giving chase over what amounted to a vehicle code infraction. “Due to the dangerous and hazardous conditions created by high-speed police pursuits in populated areas, it was careless, negligent and unnecessary for the involved law enforcement officers to engage in high-speed pursuit initiated by a minor vehicle infraction,” the claims read.

The motorist who was killed Monday after her vehicle careened off Angeles Crest Highway has been identified by coroner's officials as Montrose resident Maral Joulakian. An autopsy for Joulakian, 43, was still pending, according to Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter. County firefighters were called to the 32.2-mile mark of the highway about 1:45 p.m. after someone saw a vehicle leave the roadway, the L.A. Times reported. The cause of the accident, in which her car tumbled several hundred feet down a steep ravine, remained under investigation.

Two deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, including one from the Crescenta Valley Station, were treated for minor injuries following a fight with a suspect and a related car crash in Altadena Saturday afternoon.   The suspect and three motorists involved in the collision were also taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Mann said.   Deputies with the Altadena Sheriff's Station were responding to a family disturbance call in the 200 block of Galbreth Road in Altadena at about 3:30 p.m. when the clash erupted between deputies and a man at the location.

Police are looking for a driver who allegedly fled from them during a traffic stop, then crashed and ran into a South Glendale neighborhood. Glendale police officers have set up a perimeter in the neighborhood surrounding of Griswold and Colorado streets in search of the driver, officials said. Officers stopped the driver this morning in connection with a minor traffic violation, police said. As they were talking to the driver, he reportedly drove off. Moments later, he crashed his vehicle and took off running, police said.

A suspected gang member was able to evade a police perimeter set up in South Glendale on Tuesday after he led officers on a brief car chase, crashed and then fled on foot. Officers wrapped up a roughly six-hour search Tuesday afternoon for the driver, who police say may have been armed. The neighborhoods surrounding Colorado to Maple streets and Fischer and Griswold streets were heavily guarded under a police perimeter, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. While the driver eluded police, officers believe they know his identity, he added.

All lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway at the 110 interchange have reopened following a deadly collision that left one person dead, authorities said Friday morning. At 7:54 a.m. the freeway reopened, said Officer Cheyenne Quesada with the California Highway Patrol. “It's moving right along just fine,” Quesada said. The northbound side of the freeway was closed Friday morning after a high-speed pursuit of suspected robbers led to the crash. The incident began when police received a 1:46 a.m. call about a robbery at a 7-Eleven store off East 4th Street and South Cummings Street in which a suspect drew a knife, said Sgt. Peter Gamino of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A movie producer was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of methadone and the prescription drug Adderall after he allegedly crashed his Corvette into a parking pole in Glendale, according to police. Robert DeBrino - who worked as a producer on the films “Shut Up and Shoot” and “Find Me Guilty” -- was taken into custody about 1:58 a.m. in the 1200 block of Boynton Street after a witness told police the 61-year-old had been sitting his Corvette for 15 minutes before stumbling around outside the sports car, according to Glendale Police Department reports.
