Two boys and two men were sentenced Monday to spend time in prison for engaging in a three-day crime spree that spanned from Glendale to Tujunga. Christian Rubio, 15, Kevin Ruano, 15, Nicolas Ventura, 18, and Sergio Rodriguez, 20, were arrested Sept. 1 and pleaded not guilty Dec. 10 to charges of robbery and carjacking. They changed their pleas to no contest Monday in Pasadena Superior Court, paving the way for the sentencing. Rubio and Ruano both received two strikes and were sentenced to serve three years each in state prison.

BURBANK — One of two men charged with a carjacking and robberies spanning from Glendale to Tujunga wept in court Thursday when he saw members of his family. Wearing a blue Los Angeles County jail jumpsuit and shackles, Nicolas Ventura Jr., 18, of Lakeview Terrace was comforted in a Burbank Municipal Court by codefendant Sergio Rodriguez, 20, of Sylmar, who handed him a tissue to wipe his tears. The pair are charged with five counts of robbery, one count of carjacking, one count of attempted carjacking and one count of evading a police officer, according to a criminal complaint.

Tim Willert LOS ANGELES -- A Glendale man already charged with killing an Alhambra resident while fleeing police was charged Thursday with a series of robberies and attempted holdups at area fast-food restaurants. William Tanielian, 34, and another man yet to be arrested are charged in connection with the crime spree, which took place between March and May. Tanielian was wanted on suspicion of the robberies when he fled Glendale and Los Angeles police in May and caused a head-on collision in Eagle Rock that killed an Alhambra man, officials said.

A man alleged to be responsible for 12 murders in the Atwater Village area was arrested in Arizona by two dozen law-enforcement officers. Timothy Joseph McGhee, 29, is alleged to have ordered or carried out the killing of 12 people since 1997, reports said. The alleged gang leader was arrested in Bullhead City, Ariz., following surveillance by LAPD detectives and U.S. marshals. Though none of McGhee's alleged killings took place within the city of Glendale, police spokesman Sgt. Kirk Palmer said the Glendale Police have been on the lookout for McGhee, and the News-Press profiled him in a segment of "Glendale's Most Wanted."

BURBANK ? Two 15-year-old boys will be tried as adults along with two men accused of engaging in a three-day crime spree that spanned from Glendale to Tujunga, an attorney said. GLENDALE — Two men and two boys were charged Wednesday with allegedly carjacking a motorist at gunpoint and engaging in a three-day crime spree that spanned from the city to Tujunga, police said. The four were taken into custody Sunday night following a pursuit through the city, Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. The District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday charged Nicolas Ventura Jr., 18, of Lakeview Terrace and Sergio Rodriguez, 20, of Sylmar with five counts of robbery, one count of carjacking, one count of attempted carjacking and one count of evading a police officer, which is a felony.

CRESCENTA VALLEY — Warrants were issued Thursday for two Rosemead residents wanted for breaking into a La Crescenta home and for burglaries in three other cities, police said. Prosecutors have filed felony receiving-stolen-property charges against Joseph Guevara, 23, and a felony count of attempted residential burglary against 33-year-old Cynthia Martinez, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. Martinez was inside the La Crescenta home while the homeowner was there, police said.

Alecia Foster SUNLAND -- More charges may be filed against two men arrested on suspicion of robbing the La Canada Flintridge Sport Chalet, shooting at a police officer and committing a home invasion robbery. Jeffrey Goldstein, 18, and Gary Kanan, 41, have been charged with a number of crimes including robbery, attempted murder against a peace officer and theft of property stemming from a crime spree June 28. "We're in the midst of trying to connect them to several robberies," Det. Rick Jackson said.

A South Glendale resident returned home Monday to discover two burglars - possibly connected to a recent spate of “knock-knock” break-ins - ransacking his bedroom, police said. Witnesses reported seeing two men knock on his front door about 12:23 p.m. in the 1400 block of Verd Oaks Drive, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. When no one answered, witnesses told police that the men walked around to the back door. When the homeowner arrived and found the men inside the first-floor bedroom, the men fled through a balcony and the backyard, Lorenz said.

Jackson Bell Glendale continues to lead the state in violent-crime reduction, mainly by cutting the number of aggravated assaults in half, but larceny thefts have increased modestly, according to California Department of Justice statistics released Monday. In the first six months of this year, 128 violent crimes were reported in Glendale, down 33.7% from the same period in 2003, according to the state's preliminary crime index. The biggest contributor to that drop was a 54.4% decrease in aggravated assaults, from 103 in 2003 to 47 for the first half of this year.
