BASKETBALL Bulls win Valley Conference title contest: The La Crescenta Bulls, a 13-year-old local boys? team, recently captured the conference crown with a 21-18 victory against the La Crescenta Celtics on Thursday at Crescenta Valley High. Down by two with nine seconds left in regulation, the Bulls tied the game at 18 on a basket by Jimmy Smiley to send the game into an extra session.   Margaret Crippen Wurtz passed away peacefully at home with her pets on her lap surrounded by loved ones. She was 98 years old. She is survived by her son Bill and his family, wife Cindy, grandchildren Kristina and Patrick, and their mother Theresa Wurtz and by her son Brian and his family, wife Kim, and grandchildren Michael and Cassie. Margaret was born in Iowa and moved to California at a young age. Her parents founded Crippen's Mortuary in 1928 which has served the community for 83 years.

Behind a two-hit, 13-strikeout performance from Alex Crum and run-scoring hits from Mychael Barajas, Chile Jaco and Chad Nacapoy, Crippens captured its sixth straight championship in the La Crescenta Babe Ruth 13- to 15-year-old division with a 4-2 victory against Glendale Police on Wednesday night at Dunsmore Park.

LA CRESCENTA — With the rivalry that's been built between Trotta Floor Covering and Crippen Mortuary in recent seasons, perhaps it's only fitting they are in the midst of playing for the La Crescenta Babe Ruth District Championship. The teams don't appear to be tired of facing each other, though they have met twice since Saturday. Behind a strong pitching effort by Anthony Faure, Crippen came through with a 7-2 victory against Trotta on Monday night in the championship game at Dunsmore Park.

LA CRESCENTA — For a Little Leaguer, Kyle Currie turned in a professional-type at bat. With the go-ahead run on base, Currie fell behind, 0-2, in the count before working the count full. On the eighth pitch of the plate appearance, the patient Currie struck pay dirt. Currie came through with a key two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Trotta Floor Covering to a 6-1 win against Crippen Mortuary on Tuesday night in the if-necessary championship game of the La Crescenta Babe Ruth District Championship at Dunsmore Park.

Gladys McMullin Gladys McMullin died June 30, 2004, in Henderson, Nev. She was 87. She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Aberdeen, Scotland, and was a Glendale resident for 52 years. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sapp; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister Helen Ostendorf. BASEBALL LA CRESCENTA BABE RUTH Crippen 13, Trotta 2: Will Davis led Crippen as he drove in seven runs and had a pair of doubles and a triple. Jimmy Crocket drove in a run. Trotta?s Shane Smith had two hits and Brandon Keen had a two-run double. CV Tile 5, San Fillippo 4: CV Tile was led by pitchers Bryan Wang and Jimmy Smiley.
