WOODLAND HILLS — A change in terrain is apparently no big deal for the Glendale Community College men’s and women’s cross-country teams. Six days after running well on the flat-as-a-board course at Legg Lake in El Monte in the Foothill Invitational, the Vaqueros conquered the peaks and valleys of the course at L.A. Pierce College on Friday afternoon, sweeping the Western State Conference Preview meet and boasting the second-place overall finisher in both races.

GLENDALE ? At this juncture of the season, upsets are prime to happen. Glendale Community College men?s tennis player Paul Nagapetyan can attest to that. Nagapetyan pulled off arguably one of the biggest upsets Saturday afternoon, as he recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory against sixth-seeded Mattias Muster of Ventura College in a round-of-16 singles match of the Western State Conference Tournament in Santa Barbara. ?That was a big one,? Glendale college men?s Coach Bob MacKay said.

GLENDALE — It will be anything but a sneak preview. More importantly for the Glendale Community College men’s and women’s cross-country programs, it will be an opportunity for them to compete on their home course for the first time in nearly 40 years. Glendale college will host the Western State Conference Preview meet Friday at Verdugo Park. “We are excited because it will be right across the street and it’s our course that we use for practicing,” Glendale college Coach Eddie Lopez said.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — They traveled more than 200 miles to make history. Unfortunately for the members of the Glendale High girls' water polo squad, their season fell two steps short of winning a championship. Glendale saw its incredible postseason journey end Friday night with a 12-6 loss to second-seeded Arroyo Grande in a CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinal match at Cuesta College. The Nitros (16-14) made plenty of headlines throughout the past 10 days en route to becoming the school's first girls' program to advance to the CIF semifinals.
