Francis Wheeler Doll Francis Wheeler Doll, known as "Wheeler," died on Sept. 2, 2005. He was 95. Wheeler was born a triplet on Sept. 3, 1909. He was known as one of the city's oldest natives. He is survived by his wife Frances of 67 years; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Linda; son Michael and daughter-in-law Dagmar; son Stephen and daughter-in-law Caroline; sister Catherine Angelica; grandchildren Mischelle Doll-Merrick, Julie Doll-Summers, Andrew Doll, Sean and Sarah Doll; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Samantha, Mathew, Andrea, Charles, Madeline, Riley and Reagan.

Burt A. Edwards , 97, passed away in Castle Rock, Colorado on June 22. He lived in Glendale until moving to Colorado with his son and daughter-in-law two years ago. Burt was born on Oct. 2, 1909 in Waterloo, Iowa to Herbert and Alice (Reeve) Edwards. He married Marian L. Peterson. Burt was a machinist for the railroad. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Karen Edwards of Anaheim, and Richard and Carol Edwards of Colorado, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Former longtime La Cañadan Marguerite Maddern died May 4 at the Tri-City Medical Center in Vista. She was 95 years old and had lived in San Marcos since last year. Marguerite was born on March 21, 1910, in Bisbee, Ariz. A homemaker for 74 years, she was a resident of La Cañada from 1949 to 2004. Duplicate bridge was one of her special interests. Marguerite most recently made her home in San Marcos. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Maddern, in 1972. She is survived by her son Jerry Maddern and daughter-in-law Dixie, of Tujunga; daughter Diane Sixt and son-in-law Fred of San Marcos; and by grandchildren Aimee Maddern of Tujunga, Alison Rudrud of Irvine and Brian Burch of Los Altos.

MARGARET M. JACKS Margaret M. Jacks, 86, a former Glendale resident, died Aug. 18, 2002, in San Luis Obispo. She was born July 30, 1916, in Glendale. She graduated from Glendale High School. She was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Rho Chapter, known as "We The Girls" since 1937. She was a member of the Nipomo Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Victoria of Windham, N. H. ; daughter and son-law, Luanne and Fabrizio Griguoli of Shell Beach; sisters, Mildred Yates of San Bernardino and Beverly Presser of Laguna Woods; grandchildren, Victoria McNees, Allison Jacks, Jack Griguoli and Richard Griguoli; great-grandchildren, Laurel and Sarah McNees; and nieces and nephews.

BURBANK — An otherwise civil forum hosted by a local civic group in Burbank on Thursday night erupted into a contentious back-and-forth between Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman and his rival, Republican Navraj Singh, who repeatedly lobbed corruption charges against the congressman, who vigorously denied the allegations. During his opening statement at the Glendale/Burbank League of Women Voters forum, which also featured candidates from the neighboring 29th District, Singh alleged that he paid a campaign donor $5,000 two years ago to facilitate a meeting with Sherman.

Oct. 23, 1937-Nov. 6, 2004 Walter Richard Kalb, a longtime resident of La Cañada Flintridge, died November 6, 2004 after a brief illness with cancer. He was 67. Walter was born in Union, New Jersey on October 23, 1937. He attended the University of Miami and Pace College in New York where he studied accounting and worked for ESSO as an accountant in New Jersey. He later owned and operated Hondo Construction Com-pany in New Jersey and contracted with ESSO to maintain their stations.

Born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, October 29, 1930 and passed away March 21, 2013 in Glendale, CA. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Eugene Ferguson, her son Thomas and daughter-in-law Seta, son Patrick and daughter-in-law Jeanette and their three children Connor, McKenzie and Brendan. Carol had a 30 year career with Pacific Bell. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed painting and spent many wonderful hours in her art classes at Brand Park. Memorial services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills on Saturday, April 13th at 12 pm.

83, of St. Helena, CA died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family on Sunday, February 12, 2012.  Born July 5, 1928 in San Francisco.  Preceded in death by her father, Daniel J. Lyons, and by her husband of 47 years, Dennis D. Gaffey.  Barbara is survived by her mother, Frances Lyons (“Tiny Gram”) of St. Helena; son Michael Gaffey and daughter-in-law Pauline of Fremont, CA and grandchildren James, Mark and Mary; son Patrick Gaffey and daughter-in-law Anne of East Lyme, CT and grandchildren Cashel and Daniel; daughter Mary Quinn and son-in-law Robert Quinn of Napa, CA and grandchildren Megan, Brendan, Clare, Michael, Sean, and Joseph; and son Daniel Gaffey and daughter-in-law Karen of St. Helena, and grandchildren Kevin and Katherine.  Also survived by brothers-in-law William Gaffey, Brendan Gaffey and the Rev. Kevin Gaffey, sister-in-law Mary Hutchings, five nieces and nephews and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.  Barbara attended Mission Dolores School and Notre Dame High School, San Francisco.

Sandra Marie Ramirez (Cataloni) Sandra Marie Ramirez (Cataloni) died on her 59th birthday in her home in Shadow Hills after a long battle with cancer. Ramirez was born on Sept. 3, 1946, and lived in La Crescenta. She is survived by her husband Rudy; daughter Tracey; son Scott and daughter-in-law Diana; grandchildren Carissa and Melissa; step-son and step-daughter John and Jackie; grandchildren Alix and Andre. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Redeemer Church, 2411 Montrose Ave., Montrose.

 Donna Lee Estey, age 81, a longtime resident of Burbank, passed away on February 16, 2011 in Santa Clarita, CA.  She was born November 4, 1929 in Kansas. Burt A. Edwards , 97, passed away in Castle Rock, Colorado on June 22. He lived in Glendale until moving to Colorado with his son and daughter-in-law two years ago. Burt was born on Oct. 2, 1909 in Waterloo, Iowa to Herbert and Alice (Reeve) Edwards. He married Marian L. Peterson. Burt was a machinist for the railroad.
