DOWNTOWN GLENDALE ? When the city's director of libraries first heard that DreamWorks Animation SKG's annual employee summer carnival was going to benefit the Glendale Central Library's children's room, she expected a $100 donation. "That buys maybe six or seven books, which is great," Nancy Hunt-Coffey said. But instead, the library is getting 100 times that. Glendale-based DreamWorks Animation is expected to present a $10,000 check to the library officials at tonight's City Council meeting.

DreamWorks Animation SKG is licensing its movie characters for various theme parks being developed in Russia , an increasingly important market for the Glendale-based studio. The creator of the " Shrek ," " Madagascar " and "Kung Fu Panda" franchises said it had signed a licensing agreement with Regions Group of Companies, which is developing what is billed as Europe's largest indoor theme parks. Regions says it's the fourth-largest retail property owner in Russia.

Market to celebrate three years at spot Whole Foods Market will serve a barbecue lunch to celebrate the store's third anniversary at at 331 N. Glendale Ave. Attendees will be asked to contribute a minimum $5 donation to benefit the Whole Planet Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting global poverty. The lunch will feature barbecue, beverages and cake. Lisa Kelly and Michael Seales are happy to announce the arrival of their twins, Jack Kelly and Kate Margaret Seales. They were born on Jan. 13. Jack was born at 12:29 p.m. and Kate at 12:31 p.m. Jack weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long. Kate weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and was 18 ½ inches long. The father is a software engineer with DreamWorks Animation SKG, and the mother is a technology recruiter at Sony Pictures Imageworks. The family resides in La Crescenta.

DreamWorks Animation SKG aims to build an animation studio in Shanghai in a further effort to plumb the vast Chinese economy.
