First-grade students at Chamlian Armenian School wore self-made paper "Cat In The Hat" hats Friday and ate green eggs and ham in tribute to Dr. Seuss' 102nd birthday. Unlike the fried eggs made famous by the Dr. Seuss book, these eggs were scrambled but were green just the same. Students from two classrooms gathered around Glendale City Councilman Ara Najarian, whose nephew, Vahe Yacoubian, is a second-grader at the school, as he read "The Cat In The Hat" to start the morning.

Ian Nord gobbled up the chocolate kisses he found inside the plastic eggs he collected Saturday during the annual Spring Fling, hosted by the MOMs Club of Glendale-West at Mayor's Bicentennial Park. The eggs had plenty of other prizes, like clay putty or toy cars, but Ian preferred the chocolates. "How about we save some for dessert tonight?" the 3 ½-year old suggested to his father, Scott. The Nords participated with other families in the annual event organized by the MOMs Club.

Rainbow-colored Easter eggs laid scattered before a bustling crowd of children as they focused on the task before them — collect as many Easter eggs as they can. More than 300 children hopped over to Verdugo Park on Saturday for the ninth annual Easter Eggstravaganza, sponsored by the city's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The carnival games, sack races, snacks and a gregarious Easter bunny kept visitors occupied between egg hunts. But the main attraction was the Easter egg hunt, said John Maghaguian, the department's community services coordinator.

A Glendale man and three cousins visiting from Ecuador got more than they bargained for when they decided to drive around and throw eggs at passing cars, police say. It all started at about 11 p.m. Tuesday on Broadway near Pacific Avenue when one of the men hit a Hummer with an egg as it passed, police said. The driver of the Hummer, who was not identified, allegedly turned around and gave chase. The chase continued for several blocks until the men - who were, ironically, driving a Ford Escape - reached the 1300 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard, where a white Mercedes pulled in front of the men and tried to block them, police said.

The Easter Bunny hopped into Verdugo Park ahead of schedule this year as the city held its annual Easter Eggstravaganza April 3, a week before the actual holiday. "In the past it rained on the weekend of Easter," explained Walter Alvarez, a city employee in charge of the event. "We put in a week in advance, and if it rains we do it the following week." Alvarez said Saturday's event had the largest attendance to date, which could be because several smaller egg hunts were combined this year.
