NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- The Glendale Redevelopment Agency and City Council unanimously approved final environmental documents and designs for a proposed Embassy Suites Hotel project Tuesday evening, despite vehement complaints from a few of the hotel's potential neighbors. "We have to strike a balance, and it's not always easy, between development and quality-of-life issues, whatever," Councilman Dave Weaver said. "It's a balancing act, and there's not absolute right and wrong.

Local doctor to appear on TV The Commission on the Status of Women will present Dr. Manuel Momjian of Glendale Memorial Hospital talking on ?Osteoporosis and You? on the commission?s monthly televised meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday on GTV6. Osteoporosis is a bone disease commonly associated with aging. The Commission on the Status of Women has devoted this year to the topic ?Focus on Health,? and its ongoing monthly presentations focus on health issues for women. Glendale Memorial Hospital and the commission also plan to partner for an hourlong presentation on the disease at Glendale Memorial Hospital from noon to 1 p.m. June 9 in the hospital?

Speakers program kicks off today The Encore speakers? program at Glendale Community College is scheduled to open its spring session with presentations at 10 a.m. today. Maria Kretzmann, who represents the college?s Biology Department, will talk about the work at the Baja Field Station in Mexico. At 1 p.m., Ellis Minor, a scientist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will give an update on the Cassini Mission in orbit around Saturn, as well as other missions at the space center.
