CRESCENTA VALLEY GRAD TO ATTEND EMBRY-RIDDLE Ricky Peter Arvizu, a Crescenta Valley high school graduate, will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., this fall to study aeronautical science. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University specializes in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 degree programs in its colleges of arts and sciences, aviation, business and engineering. ? TOASTMASTER RECEIVES GROUP?S TOP HONOR Bruce Campbell has earned the status of Advanced Leader Silver in the Toastmasters International leadership program.

Trybus -- Lindvay Stacey Trybus, the daughter of Robert and Diane Trybus of Mesa, Ariz., and Paul Lindvay, the son of David and Susan Lindvay of Burbank, have announced their engagement. The bride-to-be graduated from Streamwood High School in Illinois in 1997 and attends Central Arizona College. She is employed as a department manager for WalMart. The groom-elect graduated from St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge. In 1998, he graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz.

On Saturday the Crescenta Valley High School JROTC held its end-of-year awards banquet. The event took place at Clark Magnet High School and was catered thanks to volunteer parents. Twenty-six cadets received Nationally Recognized Awards from 19 different organizations. CVHS is the only active JROTC in the Glendale district and the cadets are kept busy all year attending services throughout the district and several school events. They also work before, during and after school in training and discipline.

Crescenta Valley High School held its annual Falcon Award assembly on Friday, May 29. The Falcon Award is presented to the one student who exemplified outstanding characteristics throughout their years in high school. The award, which was first created in 1999, acknowledges and honors these students. This year there were five semi-finalists and six finalists. Every semi-finalist was awarded with $75 and every finalist received $250. This year?s recipient is Jennifer Lee. Competing with Lee for the prize were finalists Ricky Arvizu, Amanda Schwartz, Jessica Park, Jake Walker and Jerry Yoon.

The family and friends of the Washington state man found dead on a Burbank off-ramp this week remembered him as a fun-loving sports fanatic.  The man, Lee Clifford Morris of Richland, Wash., was a 26-year veteran pilot for the airline. His  body was discovered  along the southbound Scott Road off-ramp Tuesday evening by a passerby. Morris landed at  Bob Hope  Airport on Monday and was scheduled to fly out at 7 a.m. Tuesday, but when he didn't report to work, airline officials contacted the hotel where he was staying.

He’s known as a “fine young man,” who has the respect of his teachers and peers. Eighteen-year-old Ricky Arvizu is appreciated for his abilities, aptitude, academic excellence and all around exceptional attitude. Arvizu, a senior at Crescenta Valley High School, is this week’s CV Sun All-Star. “If I could clone Ricky and have six of him of him, this world would be a better place,” said Master Sgt. Wilson Leguizamon of the Crescenta Valley High School Jr. ROTC, where Arvizu serves as squadron commander and director of cadet operations.

The woman who can?t be slowed down, even with a walker, Shirley Darling Shirley Darling played hostess to seven friends Saturday at Scholl Canyon Estates in Glendale. Darling won the luncheon for eight through a Glendale Chamber of Commerce mixer at the estates several weeks earlier. She paid $7 for five opportunity drawing tickets and got back at least $200 in food and service. Not to mention the cost of the opportunity to build friendships ? priceless. Darling?s friends who shared the meal of alfredo tortellini and grilled chicken, all Glendale residents, all active in Glendale causes, were Doyle Kutch, Mary Rough, Fran Benedict, Gladys Wymore and Evelyn and Jim Reichgelt . Yours truly filled in for a missing friend.
