Financial literacy classes at church First Southern Baptist Church in Glendale will host a series of meetings called “Financial Peace University” teaching people how to manage their money, get out of debt and save for the future. Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Dave Ramsey will teach participants via video how to get out of debt, save, invest and buy a car with cash. The church said it conceived the idea out of concern that some residents in the community are struggling to make ends meet amid turbulent economic times.

LUNCHEON RAISES FUNDS FOR CANCER CENTER ?An Affair To Remember? is this year?s theme for the Luncheon and Fashion Show presented by Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild to be April 5 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Universal Hotel. The festivities start at 10:30 a.m. with lunch being served at 12:30 p.m. Carin Holmenas will present the fashion show with designs from the David Hayes Collection, fur and menswear from Edwards-Lowell and jewelry from Joan Castle Joseff collection.

The Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City was the sumptuous setting for the Oakmont League of Glendale’s annual benefit fashion show Thursday. “Imagine” was the theme for more than 250 members and guests who filled the ballroom. Festivities began early with no-host cocktails and the opportunity drawing viewing. The daring had the chance to try on furs from Dicker and Dicker. Since the weather was mild, special guest designer Mr. Blackwell left his own muffler from Dicker and Dicker at home.

Founders Day celebration Sunday This Sunday, March 2 is the date for the Montrose Founders Day celebration. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue. From 11 a.m. to noon, awards and proclamations will be presented. In addition, the Glendale City Council will present a resolution to the Montrose Shopping Park Association designating the 95-year-old district “Glendale’s Official Old-town.” There is no charge to attend and everyone is welcome.

Cancer survivor Laura Campanelli wore a 1960s blue and gold polka dot vintage cocktail dress and prepared to make her debut on the catwalk at the Hilton Glendale. Campanelli, who was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system, at 1 year old and with stage 1 metastatic breast cancer at 41, put her best modeling skills to use for a good cause, on Sunday. She took part in "Lights, Camera, Fight Cancer!" a fashion show fundraiser for cancer services at Glendale Adventist Medical Center.
