Diana Part II F A good example of fashion dominance is the Academy Awards, where the clothing and accessories are the dominant issue. Within the hair-style industry, hair styles often dominate the person if they just connect to the latest trend. Within the makeup industry, the makeup trends dominate. The fashion industry would like for every trend to work for everyone. The important emphasis in fashion trends is the outside of the individual, not the individual itself.

One of the highlights of membership in the Verdugo Club on Glenoaks Boulevard in Glendale was the fashion shows. The club, which opened in 1979, was a much larger facility than its previous gathering place in the old Stepper Auditorium on Broadway and provided a better setting for such events. The fashion shows grew out of ideas put forth by some of the members, including Walter and Margi Stolrow. He was general manager of Webb’s Department Store and Webb’s Store for Men and Boys for many years and took an active interest in community affairs.

It was the event Glendale socialites had been awaiting for two years—the Las Candelas Fashion Show, Boutique and Luncheon, held every other year. This year’s theme was “Reach for the Stars,” representing the group’s 58th benefit, its only fund-raiser. Approximately 650 supporters filled the ballroom of the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport for the four-hour event on Monday. Early birds shopped at a boutique filled with fashions, furs, jewelry and other ladies’ finery.

More than 120 members and guests of the La Providencia Guild of Children's Hospital Los Angeles gathered at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel for the organization's annual summer mustering and fashion show on July 16. Even if the economy is still in a slump, the ladies at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club evidently don’t know it. The clubhouse was bursting with 180 members and guests for a full morning and afternoon of activities on March 26. After a brief business meeting, out came dozens of silent-auction baskets, tickets for opportunity prizes and lunch. And all that was before the live auction and fashion show. Co-presidents Genny Bundick and Carol Huntwork reminded their audience that this annual fashion show is one of many activities going on this year representing the club’s 100 years of community service.

"Autumn Magic" were the appropriate words to describe this year's Scholarship and Fashion Luncheon of the Patrons Club of Glendale Community College. Indeed, magic was woven into each activity in the plush Verdugo Ballroom of Burbank's Castaway on Friday. A reception and silent auction began the afternoon. An annual favorite is brunch at Oakmont with Glady and Jack Kabateck . This year, college board member Vahe Peroomian donated two of his glistening black-and-white photographs to the auction.

Gretchen Hoffman Teens will have the chance to star in a fashion show and get a sneak peek at back-to-school trends as "Rock 'N' Shop" hits the Glendale Galleria on a 10-city summer tour. The fourth annual Teen People event kicks off at 1 p.m. today and will combine a fall fashion preview with the sounds of pop singer Jade Anderson, organizers said. "'Rock 'N Shop' ... provides a unique, interactive atmosphere for teens, focused on what they love most: music and fashion," Teen People publisher Anne Zehren said in a press release.

Tim Willert GLENDALE -- The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fashion show and awards luncheon at 11 a.m. June 13 at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club. The program will include a fashion show featuring adult and children's clothing and accessories, scholarship awards and awards for continuous membership followed by a silent auction. Verdugo Vista Health Care Center, and VFW Post 1614 will be recognized for 25 years of continuous service.

Joyce Rudolph GLENDALE -- The American Business Women's Assn. is sponsoring its fifth annual fashion show Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Pickwick Banquet Center, 1001 Riverside Drive, Burbank. Vendor and boutique exhibits open at 10 a.m. followed by luncheon at noon and then the fashion show. Styles modeled will be by Weekenders, business and casual attire, and J.C. Penney featuring evening and children's wear. Brooks Gardner, the Black Angus Man, will make a special appearance.

Claudia Peschiutta MONTROSE -- Call it a fashionable way to help others. The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce is holding a fashion show and silent auction on Wednesday to raise money for the Glendale Police Community Police Partnership program. Also at the luncheon, the chamber will recognize some of its members and award scholarships to Crescenta Valley High School students. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive in La Canada Flintridge.
