A few Saturdays ago I ended up starting out the day later than usual. It was already mid-afternoon when I realized I was hungry. I had a tri-faceted dilemma: eat out, go over to mom's, or do my usual single-guy-who-can't cook routine. The latter involved a can of tuna originating from the Persian Gulf. The steel-packed tuna is not only exceptionally tasty, but it also awakens some secondhand nostalgia in me. The fish is from a region where my dad was born.

Charles Rich LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Kevin Herron dashed effortlessly across the Field Turf on Friedman Field. The St. Francis High running back said he got nervous before each snap, but his running acumen clicked to read the field like a road map when he received the ball. The flashy Herron scored three first-half touchdowns to help navigate St. Francis to a 62-13 nonleague victory against visiting Pasadena on Friday night. It marked the most touchdowns scored in a game this season for Herron, a junior who rushed for 137 yards in 12 carries before being removed early in the second half.

Fish taco aficionado Joseph Cordova has opened his second restaurant. The Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, which opened last week, complements his flagship restaurant-store at 1650 Hillhurst Ave. in Los Angeles. Hopefully, Cordova said, the Glendale store, at 604 W. Glenoaks Blvd., won?t be his last. He plans to open six more stores and four taco stands throughout Los Angeles in the coming months. Cordova got hooked on fish tacos while visiting Ensenada. He described the taco as ugly and made out of plywood.

Once he catches the fish, he takes them home to be cooked and eaten, he said. Fishing is an activity for Viggiano that dates back to when he was in his 20s and in the Navy. Viggiano served in the Korean War, and when he returned home, he started working menial jobs. Whenever he found time in between his jobs, he went fishing.

Delicious food with no frills is the philosophy at Rocky?s Fish & Poultry in Burbank. The routine here is to order at the counter, pick up your order on a Styrofoam plate, bring it to your table on a plastic tray, eat with plastic utensils and bus your own table when finished. If none of that deters you, be prepared to enjoy a very good meal with fish done right. Some of the selections are available only deep-fried, and others can be charbroiled. The broiled orange roughy ($10.
