THOUSAND OAKS - Throughout the first two rounds of the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs, the members of the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy volleyball team have appeared to make things look easy. Flintridge Sacred Heart second-year Coach Ernest Banaag said it hasn't been quite so simple. “You have to go out there and earn everything you can possibly get,” said Banaag, whose team registered a 25-15, 25-16, 25-23 second-round road victory against Thousand Oaks on Thursday night.

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Louisville 0: Kayla Lund had 14 kills and Maddie Peterson added 11 on Tuesday to lead the visiting Tologs to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 Mission League win. Sophia Coffey finished with 32 assists and Emily Develle added 16 digs to help the Tologs improve to 16-3, 7-1 in league. Crescenta Valley 3, Hoover 0: Emmie Walker finished with seven kills and three aces Tuesday to spark the host Falcons to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 Pacific League win. Marina Torres added 19 assists for Crescenta Valley (13-10, 6-5 in league)

WALNUT - Winning a sweepstakes race at the Mount San Antonio College Cross-Country Invitational is a rare feat. So rare it seems, that Flintridge Prep boys' cross-country Coach Ingrid Herskind was at a loss when asked the last time her program boasted an individual champion. “Maybe Tom McLean did it, but honestly I don't know. I don't remember,” said Herskind, as her Rebels where one of a handful of locals consisting of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Cañada, Hoover and St. Francis.

The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Sarah Teegarden (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2013) freshman, Wake Forest women's soccer: It's not all about goals or even points for Teegarden, but the defensive midfielder continues to make a name for herself in North Carolina. The former Tolog notched her second point (two assists) of the season with an assist in a 4-0 thumping of Miami on Sept. 15. Teegarden has nine shots (two on goal) and has played in all 14 games for Wake Forest.

LA CAÑADA - Through the years, the crosstown rivalry between the La Cañada High and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy girls' volleyball teams has resulted in some healthy competition. On Saturday, the Spartans and Tologs played a nonleague match with an eye toward helping fund breast cancer research and treatment in La Cañada's fifth annual “Dig for the Cure” match at La Cañada. The event raises money for the Los Angeles County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

LA CAÑADA - The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy girls' volleyball team rebounded nicely, just two days removed from a disappointing loss to league foe Harvard-Westlake. Back on their home floor Thursday evening, the Tologs were solid in all facets and showed more poise in clutch moments than visiting Louisville in a 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 Mission League victory. Outside hitters Kayla Lund and Katie Conley combined for 31 kills and benefited from good defense and potent passing that led to high-percentage swings.
