LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE - The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy girls' basketball team is still trying to figure out how to solve its biggest problem of the season. The Tologs have a habit of starting slow and then hustling to make up deficits. At times, the Tologs have made up the difference and rallied to win. At others, they haven't been able to comeback. In Friday's pool-play game of the La Canada New Year's Holiday Ball Classic, the Tologs fell behind early once again. This time, they were able to come back and win. Sacred Heart surrendered 14 first-quarter points and trailed by four, but allowed just 20 points the rest of the way, defeating Village Christian, 49-34, in the final pool-play game for both teams.

NORTHEAST GLENDALE - There's been a respected and healthy rivalry that's developed the past several seasons between the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and Saugus High girls' soccer teams. The Tologs and Centurions have crossed paths in the playoffs en route to winning CIF Southern Section championships. They've also proven adept at playing against each other at a high caliber in the regular season. That proved to be the case Friday, when Saugus and Flintridge Sacred Heart met in the championship match of the Los Tacos Holiday Festival.

LOS ANGELES - A penalty-kick goal from Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy senior Kayla Mills in the 66th minute salvaged what could have been a missed opportunity for the Tologs in a 1-0 nonleague victory over visiting Brea Olinda High on Saturday afternoon at Occidental College's Jack Kemp Stadium. Mills, a defender, was taken down in the goal box in the 65th minute, which resulted in a penalty attempt for the Tologs (5-0-1). With the opportunity to insert an offensive player, the Tologs coaching staff and players trusted in Mills, who rewarded their faith with a goal into the right corner of the net as Wildcats' junior goalie Amber Rojas guessed left.

LOS ANGELES - It was more than a nonleague match. It was personal. The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy girls' soccer team did not forget what St. Lucy's did a year ago. Last season, St. Lucy's upset the then-No. 1-ranked team in the nation at Occidental College. A year later, the Tologs were not going to lose again. Flintridge Sacred Heart remembered the pain of losing and utterly dominated the Regents. Junior forward Laura Thompson had three goals and Savannah Viola had a pair of scores, as the Tologs defeated St. Lucy's, 5-1, on Friday at Occidental College's Patterson Field.

LOS ANGELES -- On an evening full of golden scoring opportunities, what seemed unlikely was that a close-range goal in the opening minutes of a girls' soccer match between area rivals Crescenta Valley High and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy would end being all that separated the two powers. Yet, a five-yard header from Tologs senior striker Hailey James in the sixth minute turned out to be the match-winner as Sacred Heart defeated Crescenta Valley, 1-0, in nonleague action Saturday evening at Occidental College's Jack Kemp Stadium.
