Janine Marnien LA CRESCENTA -- New developments on Foothill Boulevard could be a rare commodity for an indefinite period of time if the Foothill Design Committee and Historical Society can get such a moratorium. The committee agreed to look into the possibility of getting the moratorium until a more definite concept of what the street should look like is formed. The decision was one of many tentatively reached at the inaugural meeting of the committee Thursday night.

Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, an employee reported that two men entered Ralphs Market and each took more than a case of beer out of the store without attempting to pay for the items; 11:39 p.m. in the 2600 block on Saturday. Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, a woman reported that while shopping at Big Lots she placed her wallet in a cloth bag, and placed the bag in the shopping cart. Her wallet was stolen when she was turned away to look at merchandise; 2200 block between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 15. Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, a window was damaged by a pellet from a BB gun in the 1000 block overnight Feb. 14-15.

Robert Chacon Fed up with car owners using Foothill Boulevard as a used-car lot, the Crescenta Valley Town Council has asked Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich to prohibit overnight parking there. The council, which sent a notice to Antonovich last week asking to prohibit parking from 2 to 6 a.m. on Foothill, is still waiting for a response. "It takes time to hear from all sides of the community," Antonovich spokesman Tony Bell said.

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE — The Design Commission approved of revised plans for an 111,000-square-foot town center project, but the La Cañada Flintridge City Council gets to weigh in on Monday. The La Cañada Flintridge Design Commission on Thursday unanimously approved developer Darren Mattix's changes to the proposed retail center — to be located by the Foothill (210) Freeway, Angeles Crest Highway, Foothill Boulevard and Lillian Court — which include a corner pedestrian entrance off of Foothill Boulevard, the city's Senior Planner Fred Buss said.

by Geghard Arakelian An electrical storm with heavy rains battered the foothills Monday, affecting traffic lights along Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, and blowing out circuits for Montrose residents. At exactly 1:36 p.m., Monday, about 1900 Glendale Water and Power customers in Montrose lost their power for about 10 minutes. "We got notice of it [the power outage] at 1:42 p.m. and we got notice that service had been restored at 1:52 p.m.," said Joy Gaines, of Glendale Water and Power.

The council is slated to discuss pending proposals in Glendale and La Cañada for a bicycle lane along Foothill Boulevard and whether it would be feasible for the county to add a bicycle lane in the La Crescenta portion of the boulevard. The council is expected to vote on whether to send a letter to the county requesting a feasibility study for adding a bicycle lane on Foothill Boulevard or elsewhere in La Crescenta. ? WHAT TO EXPECT The council will likely discuss the potential need for a bicycle lane and vote in favor of sending the letter.

Janine Marnien A slide-show presentation that inspired the formation of the Foothill Design Committee will be presented to the community Feb. 18, along with other information about the group dedicated to aesthetically improving La Crescenta's main thoroughfare. The committee was created by the Crescenta Valley Town Council to address the appearance of Foothill Boulevard. The Feb. 18 meeting is meant to be an introduction to the work the committee has done so far, Co-chairwoman Sharon Raghavachary said.

Alecia Foster LA CRESCENTA -- A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of threatening another man with a marijuana pipe that looked like a gun. The incident occurred at 11:50 p.m. Dec. 22 on the northbound 2 Freeway at the Foothill Boulevard offramp. A man told police he was waiting to make a left onto Foothill Boulevard from the freeway when a white Rolls Royce pulled up next to him, a sheriff's deputy report stated. The 22-year-old man in the Rolls Royce motioned for the other driver to roll down his window, then pointed what appeared to be a gun at him, the report stated.
