Several lanes on the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway will be closed for three nights this week as Caltrans workers repair damage caused by a tanker fire on April 7. As many as three lanes of the westbound 134 between Pacific Avenue and Riverside Drive will close on Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights. Workers will remove k-rails along the shoulder, install a new guardrail, wash and sandblast fire-charred sections of the bridge and stripe the roadway. The closures will take place from 10 p.m.  Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday and midnight Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Glendale and Los Angeles firefighters are reportedly close to extinguishing a vegetation fire near the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway and Colorado Street. The size of the fire, which was reported about 2:15 p.m., was not immediately available. On- and off-ramps to the 2 Freeway from Colorado Street were temporarily closed. [Update 2:45 p.m.: Firefighters have reported a "knock-down" of the fire, and have started moping up the scene. The cause of the fire was not immediately available.

A 45-year-old San Pedro woman was killed Sunday after the stalled car she was in was rear - ended by another vehicle on the Glendale (2) Freeway , officials said. The woman, Teresa Rodriguez, was pronounced dead about 1:34 p.m. at the scene of the crash, which was just north of Mountain Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. “This is a bad area,” said Glendale Fire Battalion Chief Greg Godfrey. “We have multiple [traffic collisions]

Southbound 5 Freeway lanes were reopened Thursday morning after a big rig jackknifed, but the northbound lanes in Glendale remained closed, the CHP told the L.A. Times . Authorities said the semi-truck was traveling north when it hit the center divider about 2:21 a.m. and jackknifed, blocking the northbound lanes and dumping debris across the southbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol reopened the southbound lanes just after 6:30 a.m., but said the northbound traffic was still being diverted.

In what could be the mother of all park projects in Glendale, city officials tonight are slated to discuss capping a portion of the Ventura (134) Freeway for open space and other amenities. Called “Space 134,” the mega project would extend from Central to Glendale avenues and incorporate bike paths, trails among roughly 20 acres of open space within minutes of the most park-deficient area of the city. While only a concept, the City Council will be weighing in on the proposal as Glendale officials attempt to secure grant funding for a full Environmental Impact Report.

LA CRESCENTA — A 17-year Los Angeles girl died Wednesday after a pickup truck struck her as she stood in the fast lane of the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, officials said. The 1997 Ford F-150 headed east hit Jessica Catheryna Anderson at a speed of 65 mph, just west of Lowell Avenue about 4:30 a.m., CHP Officer Vince Ramirez said. Anderson died at the sceen of the incident, police said. Anderson's vehicle came to a stop Wednesday morning in the no. 2 lane after a previous, unrelated traffic collision, Ramirez said.

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday joined several othercities in voting unanimously to oppose a tunnel extension of the Long Beach (710) Freeway through Pasadena. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials last week narrowed the scope of possible routes for closing the so-called 710 gap between Alhambra and Pasadena from 12 to just five - one of them an extension of the 710 Freeway to the Foothill (210) Freeway. MTA officials have maintained that they have not settled on any one option, but critics say the agency favors the tunnel because it could better accommodate truck traffic carrying cargo up from local Southland ports.

A multi-billion dollar proposal for a 28-acre park covering parts of the Ventura (134) Freeway in Glendale won resounding support from the City Council on Tuesday. The concept, known as Space 134, could stretch across parts of the freeway from Central to Glendale avenues and include transit stops, neighborhood park areas, trails, exercise equipment, an electrical car charging station and other amenities. “It's certainly worth pursuing without question,” said Mayor Frank Quintero.

Firefighters extinguished a one-acre grass fire near the Golden State (5) Freeway at the Ventura (134) Freeway interchange on Tuesday that briefly stopped traffic. Crews from four fire companies, including Glendale and Los Angeles, attacked the blaze, which was reported about 1:25 p.m., said Katherine Main, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman. The blaze was extinguished about 30 minutes later. The northbound 5 Freeway transition to the westbound 134 Freeway was briefly shut down as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze, she said.

The pedestrian who was struck and killed on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Burbank early Tuesday was reportedly walking across the lanes when he was hit, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said. The pedestrian, described as an adult male, had just walked across the eastbound lanes of the freeway and was midway through the westbound side when he was struck by several cars, Villalobos said, citing witness reports. Authorities were trying to determine why the man, whose identity was not immediately available, was walking across the freeway near Bob Hope Drive.
