CV Sierra Club to meet May 12 The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club will feature John Haslett’s “Voyage of the Manteno, a Modern-Day Expedition,” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at the CitiBank Building, 2350 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. In 1995, Haslett with the help of Ecuadorian mariners, built a 30,000 pound balsa raft; a full-scale replica used by the ancient Manteno people, and sailed it on the open sea for 38 days. In 1998, a second raft was built and sailed for 125 days.
