LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE — Early on it became apparent that Friday’s CIF Southern Section Western Division first-round playoff game between St. Francis High and Gahr would be a shootout and the Golden Knights would have to match the Gladiators’ high-profile offense bullet for bullet. Easier said than done, even for an offense as talented St. Francis’, as Gahr proved it could score in a variety of ways, each of them lightning-quick. But St. Francis was able to match Gahr’s every move late into the fourth quarter, setting up a go-ahead touchdown drive, followed by a huge defensive stop and two Golden Knights touchdowns late in the game to break it open for a 55-34 victory, the team’s first in the playoffs since 2005.
