A Glendale High School student who was arrested this week after he allegedly grabbed a 42-year-old woman's crotch told police he was accused of the same crime at another school campus, according to police. The student, Ryan Navarrete, 18, of Los Angeles was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual battery after he allegedly assaulted the Santa Clarita woman as she walked on Brand Boulevard in downtown Glendale. Navarrete denied grabbing the woman, but told officers he was accused of “doing the same thing at Crescenta Valley High School and has had to transfer to Glendale High due to the allegations,” according to police reports.

GLENDALE - Despite being without two of its starters because of injury, the Glendale High boys' basketball team looked to persevere. Glendale found itself pitted against Arcadia for the third time in less than two months with the Nitros having won the first two meetings. Unfortunately for Glendale, it couldn't complete the series sweep as it suffered a 71-69 Pacific League home defeat Wednesday. Glendale's Eddie Uluchyan drove to the basket for a game-tying layup, but the shot hit the bottom of the rim just before the buzzer sounded.

CLOVIS - Having set his sights on hitting a personal record and potentially winning a medal, all that was left for Glendale High senior Michael Davis was to conclude his prep career with one or perhaps both lofty aspirations at Saturday evening's 95th annual CIF State Track and Field Championships. The Brigham Young University-bound Davis was entered in the championship 200-meter run with a star-studded field that included state leader Khalfani Muhammad (UC Berkeley) of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Morgan Simon (UCLA)

ARCADIA - Under a different set of circumstances, the Glendale High girls' volleyball team appeared an entirely different squad Tuesday afternoon. The upstart Nitros, who pushed Arcadia to five games in the team's first meeting Sept. 26, had a letdown in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 road defeat in Pacific League play. “I really don't know what it is, but we just weren't ready,” Nitros co-Coach Ta'ase Mose said. “It was a mental thing. We didn't show up today and that's disappointing.” Perhaps it's fair to say the Nitros weren't no-shows as much as late-arrivers to the action.

LA CAÑADA - Throughout most of Thursday's opening match of the La Cañada High Tournament, the members of the Glendale High boys' soccer team seemed to enjoy a significant territorial edge. The Nitros used their speed to create several quality scoring opportunities, but were caught off guard during a crucial part of the contest and left frustrated following a 1-1 tie against Pioneer. GLENDALE - With preseason aspirations of breaking into the top four of the Pacific League standings, Glendale High's softball team was well aware it would need to pull off some victories versus teams it had traditionally struggled against. Thursday provided just that situation and opportunity. Glendale staved off a late Crescenta Valley comeback bid to claim a 7-5 league home win bolstered by a big four-run first inning and highlighted by the fleet-footed talents of Sammy Fabian and the tenacity in the circle of Jordan Lousararian.

More than 1,000 Glendale High School students wearing matching outfits filed into the school?s auditorium in complete silence on Thursday to hold the school?s annual oratorical competition, the longest-running tradition at Glendale High.
