PHYSICAL EDUCATION, ARTS The board approved spending more than $2.6 million given to the district last year on arts, music and physical education. Last year's state budget allotted a windfall of funds to school districts statewide. The Glendale Unified School District received about $2.2 million in one-time funds and about $450,000 in ongoing funds. There is no guarantee the same amount of one-time funds would be budgeted this year. . Assistant Supt. of Elementary Education Alice Petrossian presented the budget, which a special committee has been working on since the budget was passed last year.

GLENDALE — Friends, family and a throng of supporters from the Glendale Unified School District packed the board room at the district office on Tuesday afternoon to send off 12-year board of education member Pam Ellis. Ellis' term is up in April, and she decided not to run again about year ago, she said. "I'm a firm believer that there's a time for everything to come to an end," Ellis said. "I just feel that the time is right for me." But Ellis' decision to walk away from the dais is not without regret from the community.
