NORRUP ? PERRINO Former La Crescenta resident Christina Marie Norrup of New York and Anthony Perrino of Wall, N.J., were married at The Palm House of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. The Rev. Shermella Garrett officiated and has known the bride since she was born. The attendants? dresses were gray, but each was designed in a different style. They carried ruby red roses sprinkled with rhinestones. The two matrons of honor were Tera Almeida and Josie Rivera . The bridesmaids were Courtney Vegelin, Kim Shriver, Adrienne Oehlers, Courtney Young, Kimberly Dawn Neumann, Elkin Garabedian, Glennis Pleysie r and Dina Tsompanidis , sister of the groom.

Marshall Allen LA CRESCENTA -- Rosemont Middle School eighth-graders got a hands on Civil War experience Monday with an assembly presented by the American Civil War Society. History came alive for the students, who listened to lectures by actors dressed like Confederate and Union soldiers. They talked about many aspects of Civil War life, including the clothing worn by women, the weaponry and the meaning of the flags. The action included a calvary officer demonstrating bayonet technique on horseback and the firing of black powder rifles.

Judy Seckler With a little added help from the school band and chorus, the stage at Rosemont Middle School auditorium came alive Thursday as the story of immigration in America unfolded. Costumed students, part of teacher Shannon Estrada's seventh-grade English class, dressed as everything from American Indians and African Americans up to present-day Armenian Americans. The class also recreated Ellis Island. Each group explained their identity and the reasons for their immigration.

Crescenta Valley students in Glendale Unified School District will not have class on Oct. 19. The day is a staff training day. Classes resume on Oct. 22. Rosemont Middle School history teacher Lynn McGinnis is asking for the public’s help with their annual rummage sale. The sale, combined with an early morning pancake breakfast, is a fundraiser that helps history students with the cost of The American Freedom Tour. Titled, “Boston Birth of the Revolution” this year Rosemont students will spend their spring break in eastern Massachusetts to trace the history of the revolution.

Students will be traveling to Massachusetts in the “Boston Birth of the Revolution” tour during spring break next year. The trip is exciting, educational and expensive.

The Rosemont Middle School third annual golf tournament, the "Back to School Open" will be held Oct. 2 at Verdugo Hills Golf Course. Proceeds from the event will help fund the eighth grade students' spring break trip to Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas of historical interest, says Rosemont history teacher Lynn McGinnis, who is leading the tour. The week-long trip will take students to the homes of Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and former Supreme Court Justice John Marshall.

Anyone who loves pancakes and a good deal should head to Rosemont Middle School this Saturday morning for the Fifth Annual Rosemont Middle School Rummage Sale and Pancake Breakfast. The morning event is to help off set the costs of the students' trip to New York sponsored by the history department. The seven days and seven nights excursion will lead students through history following the Erie canal to Hudson and onto West Point where they will have lunch in the cadets cafeteria.

Alecia Foster NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- Connie Hanson's work with students extends well beyond the classroom. The Toll Middle School teacher also spends a lot of time providing after-school activities for at-risk students. "She puts in a lot of 13- and 14-hour days," said Samantha Barker, assistant principal at Toll. Hanson's dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. The seventh-grade world history teacher has been named Middle School Educator of the Year by Region 8 of the California League of Middle Schools.

Alecia Foster NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- Marty Patana credits his history teacher for getting him interested in the National Geographic Geography Bee. "She thought I could win," the eighth-grader said. As a result, Marty, who said he has always been good at trivia, tried out for the competition. He qualified, and on April 6 will be in Sacramento competing against students from throughout the state. In the meantime, Marty has spent his spare time preparing for the competition.
