Erik Boal For being the defending Southern California State Tournament champion at both the 13- and 14-year-old levels, the La Crescenta Babe Ruth All-Stars weren't done any favors when the pairings were released for this year's 14-year-old tournament. But despite playing three consecutive days to open the five-team, double-elimination event, that didn't stop Thomas Lee's squad from making another successful run, as La Crescenta (3-0) is one win away from returning to the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament.

Geothermal power boosts Glendale's aim of receiving 20% of power from renewable sources.GLENDALE -- Residents can look forward to a cleaner form of energy supply now that Glendale Water and Power has begun receiving geothermal power. The energy, which began flowing to Glendale on Jan. 25, has given a much-needed boost to the city's goal to have 20% of its energy come from renewable sources by 2017. Under an agreement made last year with the Southern California Public Power Authority, Glendale Water and Power will receive 25 gigawatt hours of geothermal energy from two plants in the Imperial Valley each year for the next 25 years -- enough electricity to power 3,000 single-story homes until 2032, city officials said.
