As an Arab-American I am outraged at the comments made by Republican James Rogan and his spokesman Jason Roe regarding a local Muslim leader. Will Congressman Jim Rogan stop at nothing to get reelected? Not content enough to broadcast a series of misleading television ads that grossly distort his opponent's record, Rogan's campaign has now resorted to smearing the reputation of respected community leaders and playing on ethnic stereotypes of Muslims as terrorists.

Buck Wargo GLENDALE -- A dispute between the executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council and U.S. Rep. James Rogan (R-Glendale) ended Tuesday when the congressman's campaign manager apologized for making condescending statements about the Muslim leader. Jason Roe, manager of Rogan's reelection campaign, sent Salam Al-Marayati a letter of apology and met with him on Tuesday. Roe was quoted in a June 21 article in the Los Angeles Times as saying Al-Marayati "seems to be an apologist for Muslim terrorists."

James Rogan (R-Glendale) and his staffers have not done enough to make up for recent statements made about him. Jason Roe, manager of Rogan's reelection campaign, offered his resignation last week over comments made in a June 21 Los Angeles Times article, where he was quoted as saying Al-Marayati "seems to be an apologist for Muslim terrorists."

Omar Ricci U.S. Rep. Jim Rogan campaign's statement on American Muslims Should Not Be Tolerated. By Omar Ricci, Glendale resident and a board member of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. Outrageous. That's the only way to characterize the statements made by Congressman James Rogan's campaign regarding American Muslims in his district. In election year politicking, Rogan's campaign has sunken to new lows. In addition to his disturbingly inaccurate media campaign against state Sen. Adam Schiff, his campaign now includes making American Muslim out to be the "untouchables" of the district.

WHAT'S HIS NAME Sometimes, the names you know best are the most likely to get mixed up. There are two names staffers at the campaign office for U.S. Rep. James Rogan (R-Glendale) hear and say a lot -- Jim Rogan and Jason Roe. "Jim Rogan for Congress" is the typical way they answer telephone calls and Roe, the congressman's campaign manager, is the guy they see all the time. So, a News-Press reporter was surprised to call and hear a staffer answer: "Jason for Congress."
