NORTHEAST GLENDALE ? With only the second Prep League title in program history to defend, the Flintridge Prep boys? tennis team is hoping to duplicate, if not exceed, last season?s breakout accomplishments. For that to happen, however, its play in doubles likely needs to be shored up. Never was that more at the forefront than Thursday?s nonleague match against South Pasadena, as the Rebels were nipped by the Tigers, 10-8, at Scholl Canyon. ?I told them if we want to go further, the doubles teams have to get established and get better,?

SOUTHEAST GLENDALE — Try as they did, the Flintridge Prep and host Glendale High boys’ tennis teams just couldn’t play quick enough to get past the rain. Despite an early start to Wednesday’s nonleague match, the rains caught up to the teams, forcing an end to the match with the Nitros clinging to a 7-6 lead over the Rebels in a showdown that will not reflect on either team’s record and will not be continued at a later date. “We started early and we were moving really good,” Glendale Coach Bob Davidson said.

Behind 4-0 in its Pacific League match against host Pasadena Muir on Jan. 26, the CV boys' varsity soccer team fought back with three quick goals in the second half to close the gap to 4-3. GLENDALE — Heading into his team’s first-round CIF Southern Section Division II playoff match at Santa Monica High on Wednesday, second-year Flintridge Prep boys’ tennis Coach Ron Catano identified the Rebels’ doubles as the key to the match. While Prep’s doubles made a stand behind No. 1 team John Lee and John Kim’s sweep, singles proved to be the weakest link for the Rebels in a 13-5 loss. “Their singles players were much stronger than ours,” said Catano, whose team finished the season 12-6 after placing second in the Prep League.

CV-Muir boys' soccer story.Soccer: Crescenta Valley boys' team's comeback falls short to Muir, 5-4.PASADENA -- With the second half of Pacific League underway, falling behind four goals and then having to play catch-up might not be a good start. Crescenta Valley surrendered the first four goals and saw its late bid for a comeback foiled in a 5-4 league road loss to Muir on Thursday. The Falcons (7-11-1, 1-4-1 in league)

NORTHEAST GLENDALE — It’s been a long time, longer than anyone in the Flintridge Prep boys’ tennis program can recall, since the Rebels won a match in the Prep League. Thus, when first-year Coach Ron Catano said before the season that his team’s goal was to win a league title, it appeared to be folly. But the Rebels grabbed their first league win in a very long time on Thursday afternoon and, in the process, showed their league title aspirations might not be so far off after all, as they dismantled Chadwick, 14-4, at Scholl Canyon in both teams’ league opener.
