Dear Kim, I hear you want to run for mayor of my hometown, Glendale, California. I'm sure by now you've discovered one doesn't “run for mayor” of Glendale. No. One first runs for City Council and then wins the annual intra-council rock-paper-scissors contest to become mayor. Or loses it. No one's really sure how it works. Though I now live in neighboring Burbank, as a son of Glendale (a “Glendalian?”) I felt compelled to write and say this: Run, Kimmy! Run! At this moment, all nine of my readers are angrily sending nasty-grams asking if I've lost my mind.

Regarding the story of Kim Kardashian running for mayor of Glendale (“Celeb wants to be mayor,” April 18), the words “dupe,” “fool,” “goon,” “jerk,” “chump,” “dunce,” “nitwit,” “fathead,” “simpleton” are all synonyms for “boob” in my crossword dictionary. Kardashian should be informed we already have enough boobs in city government in Glendale. Barbara Vaccariello Glendale

Though hard for me to admit reading the gossip wires, this was a tidbit a bit too juicy to pass up: Kim Kardashian wants to be the mayor of the Jewel City. Seriously. "I decided…I'm gonna run for the mayor of Glendale…but it's gonna be in like five years," she said according to  Radar Online . Kardashian, who made the statements on an unaired clip of Khole & Lamar, said the fit was a natural because Glendale is an “Armenian town.” The mayor of Glendale, of course, is an appointed position, chosen each year among the sitting members of the council.

Cornered on the White House Correspondents' Dinner red carpet, Kim Kardashian told reporters she's “thinking about” running for Glendale mayor almost two weeks after a video  clip surfaced in which she quipped about running for political office. The Times reported that Kardashian would have to become a registered voter in Glendale, residing in the city 90 days before the election, and collect 100 endorsement signatures to run for City Council. City spokesman Tom Lorenz said the mayorship rotates based on the majority vote of the council, explaining that it is not an elected position in that city.

Since Kim Kardashian mused aloud about wanting to run for mayor of Glendale someday, political commentators and others have weighed in on whether the TV star's aspirations can become a reality. In the “Pinheads & Patriots” segment of his Fox News show, conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly showed the leaked video clip in which Kardashian declares , "I decided I'm going to run for the mayor of Glendale. " She later said she would choose to run for office in Glendale "because it's, like, Armenian town.

Kim Kardashian may not be able to be run for mayor of Glendale, but she may be invited to ride on the city's upcoming Tournament of Roses Parade float. “She has shown an interest in Glendale,” said Councilman Ara Najarian, who at a City Council meeting on Tuesday suggested the reality TV star be invited to have one of four seat's on the float. For Najarian, the motivation behind the invitation was apparently due in large part to the public relations bonanza that Kardashian's presence on the float would mean for Glendale.  “One or two words from Kim Kardashian are worth hundreds of thousands of advertising dollars,” Najarian said.

Glendale got introduced to a whole a new meaning for "knock knock" in 2012, and became the focus of international media coverage after becoming the object of desire for two television stars - Kim Kardashian and a black bear with a taste for residential trash. I am very pleased that our councilman came to his senses and withdrew the suggestion to put Kim Kardashian on the city's float. We have so many devoted people in this community that do their best helping as much as they can, without asking for any pay, to keep this city proud. I know sex sells, but morals can't be bought or sold. It is better for our council to go after serious businesses (not retailers) and bring them back to this great city. Give them some breaks so our young generation can start to work and have a future and, in the long run, be useful for the city.

Mr. Najarian, please explain to me and the citizens of Glendale the benefit of having Kim Kardashian ride Glendale's Rose Parade float. What is Kim Kardashian famous for? I am glad she is booked; her riding the float has no useful purpose to the city or citizens of Glendale. Letter-writer Joanne Shader hit the nail on the head: Mr. Najarian, it is time for you to seek another career. You are no longer useful in your present position. Some individuals have it, others don't. Rex Shields Montrose

Instead of inviting reality TV star Kim Kardashian to ride atop Glendale's Tournament of Roses Parade float, four local high school students will get the honor. While the students are being reviewed by the parade organizers this week, City Council members said Tuesday night that they want to set guidelines for who can ride the float in the future. In the past, riders have included council members, float fundraisers and Miss Asia USA. “I think what we should do is perhaps set forth some loose guidelines, some preferences,” said Councilman Ara Najarian, who broached the idea of inviting Kardashian to ride the float last week.

Glendale Councilman Ara Najarian has pulled his request to invite reality television star Kim Kardashian to ride atop the city's Rose Parade float given that she's already booked for a New Year's Eve event in Las Vegas. The proposal was to be discussed by the full City Council Tuesday night after Najarian was able to get it onto the agenda last week , contending Kardashian's appearance would be a public relations boon for Glendale. “I didn't want to put her in a position to turn down the city of Glendale due to a conflict,” Najarian said Monday.

The L.A. The vote came on the eve of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, in which 1.5 million Armenians were killed by Ottoman Turks.
