MULCAHY — PLUNKETT Patrick and Vicki Mulcahy , of La Crescenta, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Elisabeth , to Matt Plunkett of Laguna Niguel at a recent party in the home of Mark and Monica Wiechmann of Sunland. The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School and a graduate of UC Santa Barbara. She is applying for admission to the USC School of Pharmacy with a career goal to become a pharmacist.

1924 – 2010. Born in Brooklyn, NY; came to adulthood in Bayonne, NJ. She moved to CA in 1952 and was a resident of Glendale for over fifty years. Preceded in death by husband of forty years, Joseph Dominguez, mother of six, grandmother of 13, great grandmother of five, great-great grandmother of one. Marion retired from fashion retail at Webb’s and The Broadway. Survived by her children: JoAnna Ferber of Murrieta, CA, John Dominguez of Mission Viejo, CA, Marian Toerge of Burbank, CA, Joseph Dominguez of Laguna Niguel, CA, George Dominguez of Escondido, CA, and Diane Bynum of Murrieta, CA.

Gretchen Hoffman LA CRESCENTA -- More control over local issues is usually the impetus behind a push to gain city status, but residents -- and potential future city officials -- must be ready to make some tough choices if the 22,000 residents of the unincorporated areas of La Crescenta and Montrose want to continue to explore the cityhood option. The first question in any push to become a city -- aside from whether residents want to change their current relationship with the county -- is whether the new city can generate enough income to pay for the level of municipal services residents demand.

The Crescenta Valley Soccer Club girls U-12 soccer team reached the finals in their bracket at the Irvine Winter Classic for the second straight year. The team took home second place medals after a weekend played in the bitter cold. The first game on Saturday, Jan. 13 literally belonged to the birds: Nicole and Olivia Bird, that is. Nicole scored early in the game on a long pass. She organized the defense and, along with Marisa Vasquez and Sydney Parucci, kept the Pacific Coast Soccer Club's Blue Crush team shot-less.

Sept. 17, 1916-Aug. 25, 2004 Former longtime La Cañadan John Elias Ramsey, 87, who most recently lived in Palm Desert, died Aug. 25, 2004 in Rancho Mirage. He was born Sept. 17, 1916 to James Campbell Ramsey and Sara Ramsey in Youngwood, Pa. He married Dorothy May Briere, on Aug. 17, 1947, in Las Vegas. John was chief of material for the advanced development program, better known as "The Skunk Works" at Lockheed Aircraft. He was a member of the University of Southern California Alumni Trojan Club, the Lockheed Stardusters, the Portola Men's Golf Association and the Palm Desert Shrine.

Louise Phipps Hart Crandall, age 81, our beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away on October 7th, 2013, in Laguna Niguel, California. A loving, inspirational, and accomplished woman, deeply devoted to her family and friends, Louise is missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her beautiful smile, twinkling blue eyes, zest for life and encouraging spirit will live on in our memories forever. She was a former resident of La Canada-Flintridge and her children all attended local schools.

Marilyn King, a native of Glendale and the youngest and last surviving member of the King Family vocal group that starred in its own musical-variety television series, died Wednesday in Laguna Niguel following a battle with cancer. She was 82. “The King Family Show” aired for three seasons from 1965 to 1969, and after the series ended, the Kings maintained a regular presence on national television with their holiday specials. The group began in the 1930s, assembled by their father, William King Driggs, who was a college voice trainer, the Los Angeles Times reported . They were billed early on as the Six King Sisters, and sang with  Horace Heidt 's orchestra in Chicago, before paring down to a quartet featuring Marilyn's older sisters Alyce, Donna, Luise and Yvonne, who earned considerable respect and commercial success with their jazz harmonies.

School district seeks commission applicants The California School Employees Assn. is seeking applicants for an open spot on the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's personnel commission, which oversees the hiring and treatment of the district's classified employees. The personnel commission has three members -- one appointed by the employees association, one appointed by the local board of trustees and the third appointed by the other two members.

Walter Mathew "Red" Cary, 95 Walter Mathew "Red" Cary, a resident of Laguna Beach since 1958, died Saturday in Laguna Niguel. He was 95. Cary was born in 1909, in Neligh, Neb. At 10 years old he realized his life's passion when he looked up and saw an airplane overhead and decided he wanted to learn to fly. He was left an orphan at age 13 and quit school at age 16.
