SOUTHEAST GLENDALE - Having Sevana Stepanian at libero appears to be paying dividends for the Glendale High girls' volleyball team, as the Nitros are enjoying more success this season than they have in years past. Stepanian has also helped provide confidence and assurance that her teammates can rely on her in crucial situations. The sophomore did her part Thursday afternoon, as Stepanian finished with 15 digs to lead host Glendale to a 16-25, 25-20, 25-20 25-23 victory against rival Crescenta Valley in a Pacific League opener for both teams.

Believe it: The Glendale Community College women's volleyball team would like to become heavy hitters. It's a program that's struggled for many years, culminating in it being shut down in 2002 because the college's athletic department decided the team couldn't field a sufficient amount of players. Things have changed since. Granted, the Vaqueros haven't posted a winning record since the program resurrected. But, they appear to have followed through on their well-conceived plan to recruit from the local talent base.
