Seda Petrossian’s hair salon of choice is in an unlikely location: Glendale High School. Petrossian has been going to the salon in the school’s cosmetology lab for several years, getting her hair cut and colored by high school students and recent graduates who are taking cosmetology classes at the school. She enjoys being a client of students who are learning a craft, and learning it well. “The students are very attentive,” she said. If the students have questions or problems as they work with clients, the teachers are there to help, she said.

Civility by Diana Olson The Queen of England once said to the Prince of Wales… "Dress gives one the outward sign from which people judge the inward state of mind. One they can see, the other they cannot." It is a lifetime investment in knowledge for future clothing purchases, makeup, and decorating choices. A color palette will give you information for your personal expression, while increasing your self-confidence and self-esteem. There will be no other color palettes like yours.

The city of Glendale’s website lists the Board of Zoning Appeals as a five-member board. The city Charter requires a minimum of three votes to reverse the decision of the zoning administrator on an appeal. The board has had only three members since May 1. Prior to Annette Ohanganian terming out on May 1, the board was operating with only four members. On Nov. 6, the City Council appointed two of the three remaining members to the Civil Service Commission, though they will stay on the Zoning Appeals Board until Nov. 26 to accommodate the hearing of a case.

Merle Norman Cosmetics in Montrose was abuzz with activity on the afternoon of Saturday, May 26 as high school upper-classmen prepared for their 2007 prom. Young women from both Crescenta Valley High School and La CaƱada High School sat across from each other as their pretty faces were enhanced by Kris Kline and sister Kim Kelly, owners of the Merle Norman location on Honolulu Avenue in Montrose. About 28 girls in all were "made up" by professional make-up artists, with appointments starting as early as 10:30 a.m. By 5 p.m., the team of artists were ready to relax.

Last month on St. Patrick's Day, the dark gray skies threatened rain and the air was chilly. I parked my car on Honolulu Avenue in Montrose and hurried into the welcome warmth of the Merle Norman Studio. The storeowners Kris Kline and Kim Kelly were busy with customers. I browsed for a while in the sparkling clean, well-lighted shop. A beautifully dressed woman with impeccable grooming asked Kris what eye make-up colors would complement a red outfit. Kris suggested charcoal and black for evening, browns for daytime.
