PASADENA - Whenever a water polo match is contested at Pasadena High, the pool itself - narrow and diminutive - is likely to become a factor. On Tuesday afternoon, it became an advantage for the visiting team on offense and defense. Crescenta Valley High goalie Manny Martinez scored a go-ahead tally in the second quarter that put the Falcons up for good, as they used their narrow surroundings to aid in crashing down on Pasadena scorer Will Klein en route to a 12-9 Pacific League victory over the host Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon.

While it may have been his first appearance in the CIF Southern Section Eastern Division Individual Championships, Arthur Ghukasyan proved he belonged at the elite tournament Friday and Saturday. Hoover High's 145-pound wrestler fell two points shy of the fifth-place match and a potential trip to the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet when he was edged by Victor Valley's Logan Howell, 4-3, Saturday. The junior needed three wins in the second day of the elite tournament at Oak Hills High to secure a top-five spot and trip to Masters, but fell just short.

As the graduating class of Glendale High School walked off Moyse Field, a group of about 10 students spontaneously ran a lap around the track. It was a reminder of the school's spirit that graduation speakers said will lead them to success in life. "We have a free spirit, rebelliousness," said 18-year-old Ani Antanesyan, who was panting from her short run. "We just did it. It's over. Yeah!" A crowd of adoring parents and friends packed the bleachers looking over about 650 students garbed in their school colors — the boys in black gowns and the girls in red gowns.
