Kenny Luong, 19, of Rosemead, died Tuesday of head injuries sustained during a weekend football game at UC Irvine with members of the fraternity Lambda Phi Epsilon. Irvine police are investigating whether the game, played without helmets or protective gear, constituted a hazing ritual. UC Irvine has suspended its chapter of the Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity following the death, Media Relations Director Jim Cohen said. Due to the suspension, the fraternity, which has existed at UCI since 1989, will be unable to register as an organization for the fall quarter, sponsor events on campus or use campus facilities for activities.

Vaccination awareness month The Centers for Disease Control and Los Angeles Department of Public Health are urging the public to get flu shots this week during National Influenza Vaccination Month. Though many people associate ?flu season? with the fall months, January marks the peak flu period, public health officials said. Vaccination is available in traditional shot form, as well as a nasal spray, which is available for healthy children and adults between the ages of 2 and 49. In Glendale, vaccinations can be obtained at health clinics in CVS pharmacies.

Caruso offering multimedia look Caruso Affiliated, developer of the Americana at Brand, will unveil a multimedia display depicting the mixed-use development starting today at The Grove at 6301 W. 3rd St. in Los Angeles. Located on the second-level escalator landing of The Grove?s parking structure, the theatrical-style ?Windows on Americana? exhibit will feature a hand-painted ?cyclorama? portraying an interpretation of life at the Americana at Brand. Simulating the point of view from a second-floor terrace at the Americana at Brand, the exhibit features rendered views of the development?

Alecia Foster GLENDALE GALLERIA -- If you want to see some of the Disney Channel's most popular characters, you better get there early. That's the advice from producers of "Playhouse Disney -- Live!", a stage show hitting 10 of the country's biggest malls during the next few weeks. "We've been averaging about 20,000 people a weekend," said Karen Hobson, director of media relations for ABC Cable Networks Group. The 20-minute live show, featuring characters from the Disney Channel's "Rolie Polie Olie," "PB & J Otter" and "Bear in the Big Blue House" will be at the Galleria this weekend for several performances.

GCC 2008 Hall of Fame inductees Bill Renison, Kim Lorimer, Robert Thomas, Tom McMurray, Gary Wright and the 1959 men?s track team will be inducted into the Glendale Community College Athletic Hall of Fame. The seventh annual induction ceremony and banquet is set to take place at 5 p.m. on March 8 at Glendale college?s J. Walter Smith Student Center at 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale. Renison played football and ran track at Glendale college from 1961-62 and was an All-American in football both years.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La CaƱada closed its Oak Grove site at 6 p.m. Friday as the “Station Fire continues to grow in size,” according to a statement on the JPL website. The fire, as of this afternoon, has burned about 5,500 acres, according to the latest reports from the National Forest Service. Non-essential personnel are prohibited from the campus, the statement reads. The JPL Oak Grove site is the JPL main campus and is involved with the development and construction of spacecraft, including the Mars rovers.
