ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Dr. Greggory DeVore, a fetal specialist from La Cañada Flintridge and GOP delegate, talked about the value of the independence and self-reliance during a talk at a symposium outside the Republican National Convention Tuesday morning. The talk was part of the "Newt U" series of talks and lectures hosted by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Tuesday's theme was "We Built It," echoing the topic of Day Two of the RNC itself, and focused primarily on business. During his talk, DeVore chronicled his 37-year medical career, beginning with his time in academic fields, to working in the corporate hospital environment, to finally opening his own private practice in 1990.

MISSION HILLS - With 11.2 seconds left and possession of the ball, the Renaissance Academy boys' basketball team had an opportunity to come full circle with its second-half rally. The Wildcats had trailed El Camino Real by double digits as late as the third quarter, but surged the rest of the way to come to within one. Out of the timeout, the Wildcats turned the ball over trying to find Jessy Cantinol open at the top of the three-point arc. They committed a quick foul and the Conquistadors drained both shots.

GLENDALE — Having already overcome a deficit of equal size in its last at bats against Quartz Hill in the opening round of the Section 2 Major Softball Tournament on Thursday, the Foothill All-Stars stayed confident when they found themselves once again down by three runs near the end of Saturday's winner's bracket game against Mission Hills. And, even though Foothill's rally came up a run short this time, in a 3-2 loss at the Canyon Country Little League facility, Coach Tyson Howard remains confident of the team's ability to play its way back to the championship game.
