GLENDALE — A five-game losing streak that concluded last season didn’t sit too well during the offseason for much of the Glendale Community College football team’s personnel. In fact, it might have been one of the longer offseasons for Glendale college Coach John Rome. One that saw him spring into action to avoid a repeat after the Vaqueros went 3-7 and 1-5 in the National Conference Northern Division. Glendale college will look to go in a different direction when it starts its season at 7 p.m. today with a nonconference home game against West Los Angeles College at Sartoris Field.

PASADENA — In its second year of its existence, the Glendale Community College men’s golf team is still learning, and trying to find a rhythm. Competing in arguably the most difficult conference in the state doesn’t afford the Vaqueros much time to learn. Glendale college found that out Monday afternoon during the fifth Western State Conference match of the season at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. The Vaqueros couldn’t find any consistency, as they finished last in the eight-team tournament.

MOORPARK ? By the end of the fourth quarter on Saturday night, the Glendale Community College football team had tangible momentum for the first time since stepping onto the field at Moorpark College. After a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Stephen Miller midway through the first overtime period, the Vaqueros had something else for the first time all evening, the lead. Neither would last as, despite an impressive 20-point fourth-quarter rally to extend the game, Glendale college could not answer the Raiders in double overtime.

GLENDALE — With two games remaining in the season and just a week removed from their most physically taxing contest of the year so far, the members of the Glendale Community College football team are feeling like the walking wounded. Actually, walking might not be the most apt description, as three players suffered broken legs in the team’s 57-55 triple-overtime loss to Allan Hancock College on Saturday. While those are the most serious injuries of the bunch, the Vaqueros come into today’s 6 p.m. National Division Northern Conference game at Moorpark College with no less than 19 players on the injured list.

GLENDALE — Entering the program’s second year of existence, the members of the Glendale Community College women’s golf team had lofty expectations. A year ago, the Vaqueros wound up at 12-28 for fourth place in the formidable Western State Conference. More people tried out for the team last summer, resulting in Glendale college Coach Kirt Kohlmeier believing the Vaqueros could challenge for conference supremacy this season. Instead, the Vaqueros found themselves short-handed before the season began after several people left the team for various reasons.

GLENDALE — For Glendale Community College football fans planning to attend the team’s final home game of the season tonight, there’s more than one reason to show up at Sartoris Field early. First and foremost, the Northern Conference National Division game against Allan Hancock College kicks off at 6 p.m. sharp, which is a full hour earlier than all of the Vaqueros’ previous home contests this year. But it’s also a matchup that promises to be a ground war from the very beginning.
