A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs on his way to a narcotics anonymous meeting, officials said. Officers stopped Arsen Galstyan after they spotted him driving erratically on the Foothill (210) and Glendale (2) freeways, according to Glendale police. He reportedly apologized for his driving, claiming he was using his cellphone and dropped it. Galstyan, who reportedly admitted to a past arrest for drug use, added that he and his passenger were running late to a narcotics anonymous meeting.

Ben Godar A random check on a stolen vehicle led to the arrests of three armed men at a Glendale motel, police said. The chain of events began late Monday night. After discovering a stolen car in the parking lot of the Manhattan Motel, police entered a room occupied by two Los Angeles women. Inside, they found methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia, police reports said. The women told police three men they were staying with would be returning soon and would be armed.

Police arrested 15 motorists during a weekend crackdown on drunk driving in the city. A police checkpoint Saturday at Los Feliz Road and Gardena Avenue yielded nine arrests for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Glendale police officials said. Another eight motorists were arrested for driving without a valid license or on a suspended license. Police also issued four citations and arrested two other people in connection with narcotics possession. Thirteen vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint.

Gretchen Hoffman GLENDALE -- A drug bust by Glendale narcotics officers yielded hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of steroids and led to the arrest of two people suspected of shipping drugs across the country, police said. Bryan Heygood, 27, allegedly admitted selling drugs over the Internet and had been receiving $8,000 worth of steroids and prescription drugs from Mexico every week or two, police said. Officers who searched his Northridge home last week found $25,000 in cash and a large quantity of marijuana and mushrooms in a safe, Glendale Police Detective Tim Feeley said.

An 82-year-old Valley Village man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of selling cocaine in a parking lot on Riverside Drive, police said. The man, Jack Murphy, was released on $50,000 bail after he was arrested at 9:30 a.m. when Burbank police reported seeing a "hand-to-hand" narcotics deal in the parking lot on 4300 Riverside Drive. Police also arrested a woman, 54-year-old Korey Janke of Burbank, at the scene for allegedly possessing cocaine. She was released on $10,000 bail, according to police.

CITY HALL ? The Glendale Police Department accumulated $1.3 million in asset forfeiture funds this fiscal year, the largest sum collected in more than 10 years, officials said. Proceeds from the sale of a building on Broadway, which was used in a 2004 bank and medical fraud scheme, contributed roughly $500,000 to asset forfeiture account, said Police Capt. Ray Edey. The sale helped fuel the account size, which was $700,000 in 2008-09, he said. ?This is going to be projected as one of the most significant asset forfeiture years that we have had in more than a decade,?

  Ten Years Ago Operations Lieutenant Ralph Martin, who had worked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station for seven years, was named the new chief’s aide at the Monterey Park Sheriff’s Station. Then-CV Commander Capt. Garry Leonard said the well-respected Martin would be difficult to replace at the local station.   Twenty Years Ago Nearly 30 hopefuls were in the race for a seat on the newly formed La Crescenta Town Council, with the first election set for March 9, 1989.

Darleene Barrientos Glendale Police officers arrested more youths in 2002 than the year before, but a breakdown of the crime numbers represents a trend investigators had hoped to see. The total number of juvenile arrests went from 1,445 in 2001 to 1,526 in 2002, according to statistics recently released by the department. However, arrests for violent crimes -- including homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- decreased by 25%, from 63 in 2001 to 47 in 2002.

Alleged refund scam curtailed Two men were arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of attempted burglary after they tried to use a bogus refund letter to scam money from a supermarket, police said. David Eugene Ross, 40, of North Hollywood and Daniel Guardado Martinez, 25, of Simi Valley were arrested about 2 p.m. at Ralphs on North Central Avenue, Glendale police said. After employees at another Ralphs in Glendale reported similar scam attempts that night, officers decided to check out the North Central Avenue location, police said.

Glendale police seized $4.5 million in marijuana and methamphetamine after busting a large-scale narcotics distribution organization in the Los Angeles region, officials said on Tuesday. More than 3,500 pounds of marijuana and one pound of methamphetamine were recovered Friday from two homes in Norwalk and a storage facility in Pico Rivera. Glendale police declined to say exactly what sparked the investigation. “Drugs have no geographic boundaries,” Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Eleven drivers were arrested during the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence at two separate checkpoints in Glendale. On Saturday night, a checkpoint at Los Feliz Boulevard and Gardena Avenue resulted in eight DUI arrests and two narcotics arrests, according to statistics released Monday by the Glendale Police Department. In addition, 12 people were arrested for driving without a license, and police arrested two for driving with a suspended or revoked license. At the checkpoint, 566 vehicles were stopped and police detained 28 drivers for field sobriety tests.

GLENDALE — A coalition of parents, educators, law enforcement officials and other community stakeholders have decided to meet monthly in an effort to combat illicit drug use among Crescenta Valley students. The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Council is expected to meet every fourth Thursday at Crescenta Valley High beginning in January, echoing the community-wide effort that minimized drugs and alcohol exposure for teens during the late 1980s and early ’90s.
